“Little wolf, it is okay. Little wolf, drop your shield. I am fine.” I shake her shoulder a little and get a ‘hmmm‘ in reply. “Little wolf, drop your shield, let go.” The bubble dissipates around us, and I look around in shock. Not too many things besides Cyrus and the depravity of the world leave me speechless, but a giant blue shield is now on the list. I lay
my head back against the pillow and close my eyes, still feeling this firm pain in the
center of my chest under little wolfs face. I play back the few things Cyrus said to me and
then the idea comes to my mind “Little wolf, drop the bond. I am okay. I will be here after
you rest.” I kiss the top of her head and the pain in my chest is gone. “She really was
holding the bond. The pain in my chest is gone.” I mumble in astonishment, looking over
at Cyrus. “Romantic. I’m leaving. Mind–link me like later. A day later at least.” He gets up and leaves the room while rubbing the tired out of his eyes.
I squeeze little wolf firmly against me. I was so afraid of losing her and she almost lost
realize her strength and I need to make it my mission to make sure she does. She can’t
leave me now. I will burn the entire planet down looking for her. I will chain her to this
damn bed if I have to. I know there is a pile of things to get to the bottom of, but in this
moment, I don’t care.
Ronan. Are you there? Yes, finally. Mate. Protect. She protected us. We were poisoned, but she held us here. Strong mate. Strong omega. Strong wolf. Yes indeed.
I close my eyes again and allow myself to picture Ayla’s face. The way her eyes glow, the
crinkle of her nose when she is laughing, the way she sucks frosting off of her fingers.
Better stop thinking about that one as I have to slide my hand down and adjust myself in my pants. She is everything I want, and we barely know each other. How can you hardly know someone when it feels like you have known each other for your entire life? I realize
there isn’t much to know about her since she hasn’t had much of a life. The saddening thought gives me the resolve I need to make a vow that she will have the best damn life. She will be the happiest shifter on the planet. Ayla will be everything. She will have everything. She already has all of me. She is my home,
I am going to give her more first. She has missed so much. Despite everything to figure out, track down, and people to kill, she will have them. She needs a first date. Not a makeshift waterfall date, although that ended amazing. First back of the car fooling around. First everything. We will be each other’s firsts and lasts. First in everything that has ever mattered or counted. Not because the mate bond makes it so. Because we make it
