Chapter 229
We Will Take It p>
Damon
‘You’re up to four place settings now. I’m proud of you.” Amani’s encouragement is appreciated, but I also hate that she has to do it.
It makes my skin crawl thinking about it,” I answer truthfully as 1 dry my hair.
Cyrus made me help dispose of Sonne, stating that I had to do whatever he wanted now or I couldn’t be his brother–in–law. Amani smiles as I walk over and kiss her cheek. She has been very understanding with me, and with the twist her life took, finding out she has a brother.
“If we go see the progress of Raven’s new place, are you going to play nice with my brother?” Amani turns in my arms and arches an eyebrow.
Her brother.
My brother–in–law.
Cyrus.
“That shit is just weird to hear. I will play nice if Cyrus can answer questions for you without hurting you.” I sigh loudly, not even wanting to think about being tied to Cyrus more than packmates.
“You punched him in the face for telling me about my mother.” Amani folds her arms over her chest.
“It was his delivery. I will play nicely always as long as he does as well.” I’ll punch him every day if he upsets my mate. “You ready to go?” and I are officially going home hunting today.
I asked. Amani
“Yeah, did you turn in the answers for realtor?” Amani double–checks her purse as we leave my apartment. I shudder to think about all the things that
could be lurking in there.
“I did. I do not understand the realtor’s obsession with the type of wall material we are looking for. What else is there but drywall?” I shut the door behind
us and lock it.
3
“Me either. Weird.” We hold hands as we walk downstairs to my truck.
1
Amani and I both want a home versus an apartment. We have discussed our future and the possibility of starting a family. While we are not actively trying to prevent pregnancy, we would like to focus on rescuing pups from the streets and caring for orphans. We want to spare them from the hardships we both
faced while growing up.
2
However, that may look like.
We pull out in front of a townhome, which is not what we are looking for, but we agree to view it. You never know what you will see and like. ‘Hi! I am so Dglad you could make it! Before we get started, I need you to sign these waivers. The realtor shakes our hands and hands over a manila folder containing a
waiver.
“We agree to refrain from public sex acts wildlife attack waiver…..we’re just trying to find a house. I scribble my name and pass it over to Amani before
handing it back to the realtor.
“I understand, but I have recently encountered some things showing houses that could be a liability. You understand how these things work.” The realtor gestures toward the home as Amani and I have a secret conversation via our facial expressions.

Her new brother was probably the culprit.
I can’t wait until I can establish a mind link with her.
I also am terrified that marking her will be an absolute disappointment for her.
“As you can see, this is a quaint two–bedroom townhome. It has new carpet throughout and a small balcony off the dining room. Both bedrooms are upstairs. The realtor stands holding her binder as we walk upstairs.
‘Stairs squeak, I comment. Could I live with squeaky stairs? I’m not sure I can handle multiple bedrooms.
All the laundry in a growing household.
34
The thing of nightmares.
“Damon, Amani pulls me out of my cleaning spiral as she stands in what would be our bedroom. “Do you hear that?” she asks as I stand in front of her, not requiring my shifter hearing to know that the walls are paper–thin.
“Yeah, if we stay up here too long, we will hear enough to choose sides in their argument. As it stands, I believe that he should do a better job of taking out
the trash p>
“Yes, but he is also tired of her makeup all over the counter.” Amani smiles. It is infectious.
“Good point.” I gesture with my head toward the stairs, and we descend to give the realtor our opinion. “This will not work for us. Can we see standalone homes?” I ask her as she frowns. “What about this doesn’t call to you two. What makes this home not the one?” The realtor air–quotes, telling me this will
be a long day.
“We are looking for a standalone home. If we grow our family, it will be easier. These walls are too thin. I explain to her.
“What is with Alpha’s checking walls?” The realtor mumbles to herself as we follow her out the door.
1
The next property is a standalone house that features a privacy fence. It has a concrete porch, black sheet metal roofing, and light beige paint. The house has stone around the foundation and well–maintained landscaping. From the outside, it checks the boxes for what we are looking for.
It looks promising, and I know by watching Amani that she feels the same.
“Here is a three–bedroom one–level with attic storage and an attached garage. It features a master bath as well as one in the hallway between the two other bedrooms. It has two pantries. There is even a terrace for entertaining. It is a comfortable 1800 square feet, and it comes with an extra lot.” The realtor gives us the rundown as we open doors and wander around. “The neighborhood is quiet, there are children on the block, and it is down the street from the
school p>
“This is very nice. I don’t think I have stayed anywhere this nice before.” Amani whispers as we look in the master bath. “Look how huge the tub is, and everything is gold. Did you see the dining room light p>
“If you like it, we should get it.” I come behind her and squeeze her in my arms as I try not to imagine all the things we could do in such a large tub.
I need to find the right time to ask Amani about marking her.
I want it to be special.
She saved my life and is tolerating all my quirks without running for the forest.

ل
“If it has a huge closet, I am all in. Do you think you can be comfortable in a larger space?‘ I know Amani is nervous about pushing my limits too soon, although it all makes me highly uncomfortable, she is worth it.
“Wherever you are, that is where I will be, Amani.” I kiss her neck as she turns, pushes up on her tippy toes, and kisses me back.
and
“Let’s go look at the closets! Amani says excitedly as she scampers off to investigate. I head toward the back of the house, looking out into the back yard, and then check the foundation.
“What is the catch? This place seems perfect.” Amani asks the realtor as we regroup in the kitchen.
“It is new and, because of that, costly.” The realtor scrunches her face in some weird, half–pained expression.
“The Alpha is paying for it,” I inform her. I’d better inform Thane as well.
“Then, there is absolutely nothing wrong with it! This is your dream home. I can feel it. What do you two think?” She clasps her hands in front of her, eyes wide and evidently intent on holding her smile until her face hurts.
I look over at Amani, who is looking at me with a huge smile as well.
“We will take it.” Now I need to figure out the marking aspect, and of course, actually furnishing a home.
