Chapter 48

As soon as I was finished with breakfast I headed back upstairs and I had a shower and I got dressed and I sat back at the computer and I kept working.

When I was finally finished for the day, I could only tell because I was exhausted. I laid down on my bed and fell asleep almost immediately.

The following morning when I got up Ezra was on patrol duty and I was too afraid of what I would see if I knocked on Nathan’s door. So I got changed into simple clothing and a started jogging around the territory.

I know that all of the wolves were watching me from inside the woods, they were on patrol, but Ezra told me that they all knew that I was in town. Everyone that’s on guard detail.

They were watching me but none of them did anything about it. They probably just wanted to check out who this new stranger was that was in town.

I got halfway around the territory when I started getting the feeling that I was being followed.

I heard the woods ruffling, a low growl. There was definitely a wolf following me.

I started running faster, but so did the wolf. I started darting around obstacles but I still couldn’t shake this wolf that was following me.

Suddenly the large black wolf leapt out of the woods, and I side stepped and ducked under it’s massive body.

I threw my leg up to kick it in the face and then I grabbed its fur and swung it around so that I could kick it straight into the trees behind him.

I stood there waiting for him to get up, but suddenly there were a lot of wolves

around me. All the warriors that were on patrol.

The black wolf slowly got up and shifted back to his human form.

“Did I pass your test, Ezra?” I asked.

“That was pretty fucking impressive.” He said.

“Thanks.” I said.

“Where the hell did you learn to fight?” He asked, putting on a pair of shorts.

“My dad was the head warrior of my pack. He was killed defending the Alpha. Logan’s dad.” I said.

“And then you became mated to Logan and the entire pack treated your mother and you like you were nothing?” Ezra asked.

“I know. It’s a pretty bullshit story, isn’t it? Logan’s dad is the one that made us outcasts.” I said.

“Well, Logan’s no better than his father. Come on, I’ll race you back to the packhouse.” Ezra said, starting to run.

“Hey. You started before me you fucking cheater.” I yelled, running after him. But he

turned to run backwards while he was laughing at me.

That was the wrong move. Because I lunged forward and I tackled him to the

ground and once he was down I got up and kept running.

He was still chasing after me and every chance either of us got, we would take each other down, trying to beat the

other to the packhouse.

Ezra did win, but it was close. And he started doing a celebratory dance while I threw my water bottle at him.

“You’re an ass,” I said, flopping down on the ground,

“What’s the matter? You tired?” He asked.

“Piss off.” I said. So he laid on the ground next to me.

“How does it feel to be out of the snow?” He asked,

“I love it. The weather here is really nice. Even though it’s winter. It’s nowhere near

as cold as back home.” I said.

“Good, Glad to hear it.” He said.

“What the hell are you two doing?” Nathan asked, coming outside with a different girl.

“Racing each other back to the packhouse.” Ezra said as we both looked up at him and saw him with a different girl. Ezra and I both looked at each other then and smiled.

“Man whore.” We both said in unison.

“Alright, you gotta go.” Nathan said, ushering the woman out of there.

He got her as far away as he could before he came back to us on the front lawn and we were still laughing at him.

“Are you two fucking kidding me? Is this what I have to put up with now that she’s here?” Nathan asked

“Hells yeah.” I said.

“Ezra.” Nathan said.

“I like having her here. She’s definitely making things interesting.” Ezra said. And I

started laughing at Nathan again.

He rolled his eyes and went inside.

“Have you had breakfast yet?” Ezra asked.

“Nope. Just went jogging as soon as I got up.” I said.

“Come on then. I’m starving.” He said, getting up and he helped me up.

We went inside and got some breakfast and then I headed up to my room and I had

a shower and washed my hair.

I got dressed and I grabbed a few books and took them downstairs.

I made a coffee and I sat on the front veranda with my books to study and to do the work that needs to be done by next week.

I lit up a cigarette and I was deep into studying when I heard a bunch of guys off to the side of the building talking.

I looked over and a whole bunch of guys were gathering there but Ezra was also there. He had told me that he held warrior training next to the packhouse. And the high school kids train at school in the afternoons. Ezra usually goes to them as well.

The guys must have said something about me because I saw Ezra snap my head back around at them.

“Who the fuck said that If I hear anyone else say anything about her that is disrespectful then you are off the warriors team. Do you understand me?” Ezra yelled.

“Yes, sir.” They all said in unison.

Holy shit. No one has ever stood up for me like that. I didn’t really hate it. It actually felt nice to have a guy defend me like that. Not that I needed it. Everyone knows that

I don’t. It just felt weird and surreal and like it was happening to someone else. Not

me.

I wasn’t really too sure how to react, so I just put my head back down and kept doing my school work.
