Chapter 94

My mother slept for a couple of hours but when she woke up again I went to go and see her. I brought Ezra in and introduced them to each other.

Mom looked confused at first until I told her that he was my mate and I’d been living with him for five years.

She actually looked happy when she heard that. She brightened up a little. Not too much, but a little.

“I hope that she’s not being too difficult for you.” Mom said,

“No. She told me all the antics she used to get up to as a kid. But she’s been nothing but a great addition to my pack. They all love her. And respect her as their Luna.” Ezra said.

“From an omega living in a trailer in the woods, to being the Luna of a pack. That’s a great leap.” Mom said.

“It sure is.” I said.

“Does he treat you right?” Mom asked.

“He treats me great.” I said.

“Thank you. For taking care of my baby. Make sure you keep doing that. I need to know that she will be taken care of.” Mom said.

“Of course I will. You don’t have to worry. I promise.” Ezra said.

I stayed in the room with mom for a couple more hours, but after that I walked out the back of the packhouse to get some fresh air. I needed to get some perspective on things.

I knew that she was dying and I honestly don’t think I was ready for this. Not that anyone is ever really ready for this, but I wasn’t ready for this. And I was hating myself for staying away for five years.

That was to protect my son. I didn’t want Logan to know that he was the father.

I still wanted to keep him away but I wasn’t sure if that was going to work. They were with the nanny at the hotel and I didn’t know what was going to happen here.

I was looking around outside of the packhouse to see if there were any secret entrances into the house or if Logan’s dad was just living in the basement or something like that.

Mom was sure that she had seen him and if that bastard did kill my father, then I would gladly kill him.

I felt a sudden gush of wind blow past me and I stood up straight.

“What the fuck are you doing here Cory?” I asked.

“I was wondering how long it would take you to get back here.” He said.

“My mother’s dying.” I said.

“I’m sorry to hear that.” He said.

“That doesn’t explain what you’re doing here.” I said.

“I’m sure Logan has already told you. A lot of wolf packs are aware of the army trying to take them out.” Cory said.

“Why do you care so much?” I asked.

“You are the prophet. How many times do I have to tell you that?”

“Alright. If I am this prophet then what am I supposed to do? You want me to kill Logan and take this pack back. You want me to be the leader of this pack. How does that stop the war?” I asked.

“Oh my god. You really don’t know why the army is snooping around, do you? Or how they were alerted to wolf packs in the first place.” He said.

“No. How the hell would I know that? I’ve been a little preoccupied with my own life.” I said.

“Logan is going to extreme measures to keep everyone hidden because this is the pack that they are watching.” He said.

“So, Logan did something to alert them.” I said.

“His wolves have been going out past their border. They’ve been killing humans.” He said. And I stood there, completely shocked by what I just heard.

“What?” I finally asked.

“They are killing humans. And they’ve been seen by humans. Ones that have survived. People have reported seeing massive wolves that don’t act like wolves.” He said.

“Wolves aren’t even meant to be in this part of the country.” I said.

“Exactly. And that’s what tipped off the army. He is the one responsible for this.” Cory said.

“And is your family doing about it?” I asked.

“There’s nothing that we can do. Not without drawing attention to ourselves.” He said.

“You know, I am really starting to fucking hate you. Logan has already gotten their attention. There’s nothing I can do to stop that now.” I said.

“A change in leadership will definitely be a great first step. And then you might be able to convince them that you’re not a threat. It was one Alpha that was being an ass.”

“They are killing humans. No one is going to convince them that it’s going to stop once Logan is taken care of.” I said.

“I could see you looking around his house. So, you know that his father is here too.” Cory said.

“Am I the only one in the dark around here? I thought I was the one that was meant to make everything right? And yet no one is fucking telling me anything.” I said.

“I didn’t think you could handle the whole truth at once. And after that meeting we had with Ezra, I knew that he was never going to let me get near you again. So, we’ve just been keeping an eye on this pack. Making sure that we know everything that they’ve been doing.” He said.

“And I’m guessing there’s more.” I said.

“There is. But right now, you need to think of all the other wolves in this country. The wolves that are harmless and are actually out there to protect humans. This pack is the exception. And I know that if you are in charge, you would never let them kill a human.” Cory said.

“Of course I wouldn’t. But you don’t realize what you are asking of me.” I said.

“Alright. Don’t think about this pack. They were completely pricks to you growing up. We all know that. Most of

the people in this pack deserve to burn for what they did to you and your family. I don’t blame you for taking off when you did. But think about Ezra’s pack. Which is now your pack. Think of all the friends you’ve made. Think about your children.” Cory said.

Suddenly I heard a growl from just inside the back door and I swung my head around to see Logan slowly come into view.

“You have children?” He asked, through gritted teeth.
