Chapter 143

When the kids got up that morning I took them downstairs where I made them breakfast and then I started getting them ready for the day.

I took Octavia and the twins to school and then I went to my office in town and my receptionist Maggie was sitting behind her desk.

She walked in and handed me my messages and I sat behind my desk looking at everyone that had called me.

I turned my computer on and I opened my email and started reading through them.

A lot of them were just from pack members requesting job changes and the mundane things that I needed to handle around the pack.

I also had a lot of bills to pay for the pack, so I grabbed the credit card that was only for pack business and I paid all the bills so I was sure that we were caught up on everything. But I was getting really distracted easily these days.

“Hey Mom.” Aiden said, coming into my office.

“Hi. What are you doing here? I thought you would have gone with your father.” I said.

“No. I said that I would stay here with you.” He said.

“I don’t need a babysitter. You of all people should know that.” I said.

“You’ve been really distracted lately. I just wanted to make sure that there was someone here at the pack at all times to make sure that you have someone to talk to.” Aiden said.

“I appreciate that. But if you have work to do, then go and do it. I don’t need you keeping an eye on me. I’ve got Avery for that.” I said.

“I know you do. But still, she’s not family and she wasn’t around when Savannah went missing.” Aiden said.

“Aiden. I am not the same person that I was 16 years ago. I can handle my shit a lot better now. I am not going to run off half cocked and get myself killed. Don’t worry about me.” I said.

“Alright. If you’re sure.” He said, standing up from the chair.

“I’m glad that you want to take care of me though. I really appreciate it.” I said.

“You’re my mother. Of course I want to take care of you. Oh, and before ! forget, this letter was at the packhouse for you when I stopped by earlier. It’s handwritten which I didnt know people did anymore, so I thought I would bring it to you.” He said, putting it on the desk.

“Thanks.” I said.

So he walked around the desk and hugged me before he left my office and he closed the door behind him.

I looked at the letter and the writing seemed really weird. Like old fashioned calligraphy or something.

And it was made out to me specifically.

I opened the letter and I didn’t recognise the handwriting or even the seal that was

on the back of the envelope.

Morgan,

I know that you’re looking for Savannah. know that she’s alive and she’s living with the hunters. She’s in danger. I know who you are

and who she really is. But she doesn’t She doesn’t know anything I only know because I am her best friend and I investigated her past.

Meet me tonight in the forest outside your border on the south side. Midnight. Come alone or I won’t show.

I promise that this is not a trick. She’s in trouble and she needs to remember who she really is.

That’s all the letter said. It wasn’t

signed by anyone specific. It didmet

have any other names on it but they seemed to know a lot.

I knew that this was too much of a coincidence and I needed to meet this guy at midnight.

I might have told Aiden that I wasn’t going to go off half cocked, but that was before I got this letter.

I had to go. If Savannah is in danger or in any kind of trouble then I am going to get her out of it.

That’s all I cared about right now.
