Chapter 152

What the hell did I do to deserve this? I was being really good at the other base. I was behaving myself, I never got in trouble.

The whole time I was there, I never got written up for anything. So I don’t understand why I just suddenly got the order to move out.

As I looked around I saw that there were different units wearing different clothing.

Some were wearing the typical army green and camouflage clothing but others were just wearing black. Like at my old base.

Justin was wearing the black uniform.

There’s definitely something strange about this outfit. And I’m not sure I’m going to like it.

We got to the main office building at the front of the base and we had to get through several lines of security before we made it to the Captain’s office and we had to stand outside waiting for him after his receptionist had told him that we had arrived.

I started looking at all the pictures on the walls and they were of all the soldiers that had come through this base with very high distinctions. The soldiers that they were most proud of.

I saw Justin’s picture on the wall and I looked at him before I looked back at the plaque that was under his name.

For going above and beyond to protect and save his unit.

So, if he’s such a hero then why the hell is he still only a private? That didn’t make any sense to me.

Once the buzzer went off we were told to go into the Captain’s office and when we walked in I closed the door behind us and Justin saluted the Captain but I just looked at them strangely.

“Didn’t you salute at your last base?” The Captain asked.

“Not really.” I said.

“Well, here you do.” He said. So I gave him a salute and he leaned back on his chair and looked me up and down.

“So, you’re the one that they sent us.” He said.

“I’m still not sure why, sir. I was just given the order this morning that was moving out.” I explained. And he nodded his head while pursing his lips.

“Well, I’m Captain Stevens and this is my whole outfit. I want you to know that I run a very tight ship around here. We salute, we never have. soldier standing still, we are constantly working to make ourselves the best that we can be. Do you understand?” He asked.

“Yes, sir.” I said.

“Alright. Now, as you’ve probably already noticed, the two different uniforms. The green ones are normal soldiers that go on missions and get sent overseas. All that sort of crap. But the ones in black, they are the elite. You’ll be one of them. They are the Hunters. The greens don’t know what the blacks do. And we’d like to keep it that way you are bunking with a bunch of other Hunters and they all know who you are and where you came from. That you’ve basically been a lifer. So we expect nothing but your best while you are here. I will not have you disrespecting me or ruining my good name.” Captain Steven’s said.

“Yes, sir. I don’t intend to cause you any trouble, sir.” I said.

“Good. Private Chambers. Please take Private…” He said, not even knowing my last

name.

“Leigh.” I said.

“Take Private Leigh to the mess hall for lunch and then you can start by taking her

on your usual daily routine.” Captain Stevens said.

So Justin saluted him and I followed suit by saluting him as well and we left the office.

As soon as we got outside, Justin could see how freaked out I was.

“Don’t worry. He’s not always that intense. Plus, we don’t see him a whole lot.” Justin said.

“How much does everyone know about me?” I asked.

There goes my fresh start. Those bastards told them everything. How I grew up at

that base without parents or anything. This was bullshit.
