Chapter 162
I was still with the three guys, but we had to pair off and Eric and Jesse just
automatically chose each other, which left Ben and myself to fight.
Justin showed us the sort of moves that he wanted to see from us and I knew that Ben was a lot bigger than me, but I always excelled in hand to hand combat.
And it doesn’t matter about the size of your opponent. It matters about the skills that you possess.
But this is the first time I was fighting Ben. I didn’t know what skills he had and I guess I was about to find out.
We started trying out the different techniques that Justin showed us and I will admit, Ben was strong. So I needed to be smart. I needed to be able to get him on the ground, without him seeing it coming. I had to be crafty.
But no matter what I did, he was ready for it.
I didn’t manage to get him down at all. Not once that day. And I had a feeling that he was going easy on me.
How the hell is that possible?
I was one of the best fighters at my last base. I’ve been practicing my whole life.
How the hell did these guys just walk in and now I feel completely inadequate?
We trained all day and then it was time for dinner.
The guys were leaving and I said that I would catch up, but instead, I started working out on the weights for a while.
I needed to up my game because this base was nothing like my old one. I needed to get better. I needed to show these people that I belonged here and that I wasn’t a liability.
Honestly, I don’t know what they do to Hunters who they think are liabilities. And I’m too scared to even think about it.
I just know that I have to get better.
I had been in the training room for about two hours when I heard the door open and
I turned around and Ben was standing there.
“I knew I was going too hard on you today.” He said.
“No. You weren’t. It’s what I needed.” I said.
“You needed me to kick your ass all day?” He asked, raising an eyebrow.
“I needed you to push me so I would know how much I needed to improve.” I said. But he just rubbed his eyebrow and walked over to me.
“Lilly. There is nothing that you need to do to improve your fighting skills. You’re really good. But I’ve been doing this longer. And I’m bigger.” He said.
“Size doesn’t matter. Not in a fight anyway.” I said. And he cocked his eyebrow at me.
“Really?” He asked. And I bit my lip, a little embarrassed about what I just said.
“I’m just a little pissed off because no one could beat me before. You are the first one who has in a long time.” I said.
“Let’s go and get some rest. I’m sure you’ll do better tomorrow. This place really tough mean, they do
is
constant training and never anyone have a day off.” He said.
“Yeah. I think that’s pretty shit.” I said.
So he put his arm over my shoulder and started walking me to the door.
We left the training room and we started walking across the compound. The only people out were the guards that had doubled since we got news of my last base
being attacked.

I felt a little awkward walking with Ben and smelling that same scent that he always
wore.
I don’t know why I was so drawn to it. And why it was so appealing to me.
I had never even thought about boys before now.
It had always been training and that was it.
But as we were walking back to our bunk house in silence, I felt Ben slowly move his hand over and he grazed my hand with his. But then. he wrapped his hand around mine and entwined our fingers together.
I got a small grin on my face, but I didn’t say anything. I just let him hold my hand as
we walked back to the bunk house.
