Chapter 196

MORGAN POV

We only got so far in the forest when a shot rang out behind us, so we stopped and turned around.

Ezra saw Stevens standing there pointing a gun at us and started growling.

“Did you really think that cell was going to slow me down? I’ve got loyal followers in that base.” Stevens said.

The warriors started gathering in front of us but I told them to back off.

“Is this really how you want to go down?” I asked. But Stevens looked indifferent.

“It’s a hero’s death.” He said.

“No. It’s an idiot’s death. And you know it. You know that no councilman is worth all of this trouble.” I said. And he looked at me strangely.

“You really have been watching me.” He said.

“Izzy has been a great informant… Do you really think Webber is going to cut you in on anything once he wipes out the werewolves that aren’t loyal to him? The money he’s going to gain?” I asked.

“He’s not doing this for money.” Stevens said, looking confused. But I laughed in his face.

“As soon as he takes out an Alpha then he takes over their pack. He also takes over their assets. And every pack has assets that’s worth a lot of money. Are you really that fucking stupid?” I asked.

“Why would he want to kill his own kind then?” Stevens asked.

“Because he wants their money and power. We refuse to bow down to him and give him what he wants so he’s using you to take us all out.” Ezra growled.

Stevens looked like she was trying to put it all together in his head but then he started looking pissed off. Realizing that he was getting used at the same time he was getting cut out of a lot of deals that Webber is making. A lot of money that Webber is making.

“Wow. He really is that fucking stupid.” I said, looking at Ezra.

But Stevens raised his gun higher and pointed it straight at me.

“I wouldn’t do that if I were you.” I said.

“Why not? Because you think that you’re better than you are. You were captured, remember.” He said.

“Yeah. I remember. But don’t you think it’s funny that you’re the only base that’s been able to capture me. You let me meet with Savannah and then locked me up again. After taking me on an unknown tour of the base while I went from the cell to your office?” I asked. And the realization of everything finally hit him and he started screaming. Realizing that he’d been beaten. That he wasn’t as smart as he thought he was. That he had been used by all of us.

We set him up.

While he thought that he was being really clever and that he thought he pulled off what no one else could, he finally realized that it was only because we allowed it to happen.

He started shooting his gun randomly at our warriors and at us and once one of our warriors went down, we realized that they were silver bullets.

I ducked out of the way and charged at him, tackling him to the ground causing him to drop the gun.

He punched me in the face and tried to get back up as I felt the pain that my warrior was in, I grabbed his head and bashed it into the ground.

He was reaching for his gun when Izzy ran up and grabbed the gun away from him and stood back pointing it at him: Silver or brass bullets it didn’t matter with humans. It would kill them no matter where they were shot.

But even with the gun pointed at him, he didn’t stop struggling. He didn’t stop trying to hurt me.

Ezra started growling even louder as he walked up behind us which caught me off guard, allowing Stevens to knock me to the ground.

But the second he tried to get to his feet, Ezra lunged at him with his claws extended.

He grabbed Stevens from behind and dragged his claws along his throat, almost decapitating him.

Stevens fell to the ground and I got up as Ezra looked at me. But he was looking me

up and down, scanning me to make sure that I was alright.

“We need to get out of here. People would have heard those shots.” I said.

“Yeah.” Ezra said. So he grabbed my hand and we ran to the warrior that had been shot. He was still alive and a couple of the other warriors were carrying him as we all took off into the forest and dispersed so it was harder to be found.

Ezra and I got to a rock formation where Ezra had already stashed a bag and we both got changed into different clothes and I grabbed the cell phone out of it.

“Hello.” Ben answered.

“Put her on.” I said. And I heard him on the other end of the phone that he was talking to Savannah.

“Hello.” She said.

“Savannah. It’s me.” I said.

“Morgan.” She said. Hearing her call me Morgan was like getting stabbed in the heart.

I couldn’t blame her for that though. I mean, she doesn’t know me. She doesn’t

know me as her mother and I have to respect that.

“Are you alright? Was there any trouble?” I asked.

“No. Ben just grabbed me and we slipped away. Justin would know that I’m not there by now but I don’t know where they’re looking for us It doesnt sound like they re coming near this cabin.” She said.

“No. That place is hidden really well. They shouldn’t be able to find it unless they

know that it’s there.” I assured her.

“Are you free?” She asked.

“Yeah. Ezra and I are on our way to you. Just stay in that house. You’ll be safe.” I said.

“Alright. I’m glad that you’re okay.” She said. And I smiled.

“Me too. I’ll see you soon.” I said.

When I got off the phone Ezra knew that I was really bothered by a lot of what she was saying. So he walked over and hugged me.

“She’ll get to know you as her mother.” He said. But I didn’t say anything. I just stood there with my arms wrapped around him. I didn’t need to talk about it. I just needed the comfort.
