Chapter 92
ALPHA MAVERICK’S POV
Anxious. That was exactly what I was feeling from the moment I found out Valencia was kidnapped.
My heart hadn’t stopped beating at the pace of a bullet train since then, the dread not leaving my chest as my brain was constantly thinking of how torturing it was for her.
What if they were being worse to her? What if they were hurting her?
I didn’t know Valencia was engraving herself with such effectiveness in my heart that the thought of her getting hurt was hurting me so much.
I already lost my family once to these rogues, the thought of losing someone else who I was getting close to was making me feel like the biggest failure.
What was the use of being the strongest and most dangerous alpha in the world when I wasn’t even able to protect the people I really cared about?
I promised her. I told her that I would protect her, and though it was a fake promise to her because I told her I would protect her from myself being the alpha, but in my heart, I had promised to protect her from all the negativity that would affect her happiness and smile.
That was the reason why I couldn’t control my anger when I saw Aiden hurting her.
And the thought of her getting tortured by those rogues was only filling me with self-hatred and guilt.
I picked up Shadow’s call as soon as my phone rang.
“Sir, she isn’t here either. No suspicious car has moved out of any check post,” He said, and I suppressed the urge to throw my phone in anger.
Nothing positive was coming from anywhere. Everyone was calling me with the same negative news that I didn’t want to hear.
“What is the team searching the forest doing? Why haven’t I heard anything from them?’ I growled on the phone before ending the call, feeling heat creep up my neck.
I turned to my left where Carl was trying to look for Valencia with the same urgency, the fear in his eyes making me suspicious of his feelings towards her.
However, I knew now wasn’t the time to act jealous.
Without thinking twice, I turned into my wolf form and started running inside the forest to see if I could find her or any hint that she was near me or just anywhere.
As I was walking towards the east zone of the forest where we had found some rogues quite a few times, hoping that my wolf would catch up on some scents that my team probably couldn’t like Valencia’s scent, I received a call again.
I transformed back into my human form to pick up the call since using the mind link was impossible when we were so far from each other.
“Hmm?” I asked as soon as I picked up the call.
“Sir, I wanted to report something,” The man said, and I recognized his voice as the member of the patrol team that was on duty today.
“Look, I don’t have time for this at the moment. If it’s not important, then report it to-,” I couldn’t even complete my sentence when the guy interrupted me.
And normally I would’ve surely gone back to the pack to teach him a good lesson for interrupting his alpha, but the words that came out of his mouth stopped me from taking any kind of action against him.
“Sir, I heard you guys were looking for the woman who stays in that lake house at some distance from the pack.
Actually, Sean’s son turned fourteen today and turned into his wolf for the first time. He couldn’t control his wolf and ventured out of the pack. Sean, who followed him informed us that he saw the light on the first floor which was off earlier through the balcony of the house. I am not sure about what the woman looks like p>
I could not wait for the man to complete his sentence.
Reaper pushed me forward and turned me into the wolf form immediately, surprising me as this was one of the few times when Reaper didn’t take my permission to transform us.
However, I understood where he was coming from. We both were anxious for the girl.
I didn’t complain.
I let him rush us towards the so-called lake house of Valencia, and when I saw that the lights were turned off this time, I furrowed my brows.
My man clearly said that the lights were turned on.
Could it be that he was mistaken? But what if it was some other rogue or thief who came to her lake house?
Going through the front door would definitely alert the thief. It was rather safe to climb the balcony. I told myself before climbing up and then jumping into the
Balcony of the girl that I had visited before too, and kissed her.
I closed my eyes to sniff the air to see if my wolf could catch any wrong scent.
However, what I smelt next shook me.
It was Valencia’s scent.
She was here?
Without wasting a second, I opened the door of the balcony with a flap, removing the curtains that were being a hindrance.
My gaze fell on her legs first before it moved upwards towards her duvet that was only hiding her abdomen.
Her top had ridden to her chest, exposing her stomach as she slept without a care in the world, mumbling some incoherent words.
I saw the white bandage wrapped on her forehead and my heart immediately trembled, unsure of what I was feeling anymore.
Was I feeling relaxed that she wasn’t badly wounded, or was I angry because I was looking for her in the entire city and she was sleeping here without a care in the world while I was practically losing my mind?
“Valencia,” I walked to her, not at all caring if I woke her up this time.
I could see her scrunching her brows before she opened her eyes and looked at me.
I saw her eyes widening as she looked back at me, however, I didn’t give her any chance to say anything, because, in the next moment, I sealed her lips with mine, unable to take it anymore.
“For fuck’ sake. Do you have any idea how I was losing my mind when I couldn’t find you? My entire team has been looking for you in the entire forest and city and you are here sleeping without a care. How could you do it?” I asked her before deepening the kiss, more like punishing her.
She deserved this for making us worry like this.
I closed my eyes, my heart finally feeling at ease. However, that moment could only stay for a second before I felt something biting me in my hands and I winced loudly.
What the fuck?! I looked to my side and saw a bird glaring at me before I looked at Valencia who was glaring at me too.
Since when did she have a bird? And what the hell did I do?
