VALENCIA’S POV
It was hard to comprehend what was going on.
My emotions changed so drastically in the scene before me that it was hard to collect myself.
One moment, I was standing, ready to slice Tyler’s hand, and the next moment, he almost killed me.
If Alpha Maverick hadn’t pulled me back, the wound on my abdomen would’ve been lethal to the point it would’ve been hard to stay alive.
Everything should’ve made me hate Tyler.
Well, I do hate him, but the moment when he was about to stab himself, I saw something flash in his eyes.
His gaze had that glint before too, but I ignored it, thinking he was pretending, but could a man pretend when he was dying?
It was almost as if he regretted doing everything like he wanted to do something else and ended up doing something else.
Besides, the words he said about being in someone’s manipulation. What kind of manipulation was he talking about? Did someone instigate him to do this?
Could there be more to the story than we understand?
I looked at Matilda’s crying form as she was wailing beside Tyler, her screams echoing in the silent halls.
No one had thought an alpha would do something like this, but did he not want to die at someone else’s hands?
It was funny how I was bleeding, yet I was more worried about what was happening around me than my own pain.
’It’s almost healed,’ Aurora told me, and I breathed a sigh of relief.
No one noticed, but the moment Alpha Maverick held me in his arms as I fell, he sliced his hand slightly and pushed it inside my mouth to make me drink his blood and help me heal faster.
I was truly honored and grateful to meet a man like him who wasn’t scared to show he loved me.
“Are you okay?” Maverick asked me, still not letting go of me, and I nodded slightly, patting his chest.
“I can stand,” I whispered, but the man just sighed and stood with me still in his arms.
He looked at all the people around us sternly, and I knew he was going to say something not everyone would like.
“We would like to take our leave. My woman suffered enough for the night at the royal gathering, which was supposed to be our escape from all the problems. The security here and at the council has made me realize not to bring my woman anywhere until her security is promised,” Maverick said.
He didn’t wait for anyone to say anything and turned around to leave.
However, before we could make a move, we heard someone call our name.
“Alpha Maverick, Luna Valencia p>
Maverick turned around with me in his arms, and we looked at Beta Kyle, who was standing there with his head bowed.
“What is it?” I asked, afraid that Maverick would lash at him before asking what was the matter.
Beta Kyle stepped forward and got on his left knee, bowing his head in submission again, his actions confusing me.
“According to the will left by our Alpha, he had mentioned if something were to happen to him, the pack would go to you. You will be our ruling leader and decide our pack’s fate. Please take us under your wings, Luna Valencia,” Beta Kyle said.
I froze in my place.
What did he say?
Leader of their pack? Hazel Moon pack? And it was Tyler who decided it? The same man who rejected me because he deemed me unfit for the Luna position?
What the hell was going on?
I was shocked, but someone else was more shocked than me.
“What did you say just now? She will be our leader? Have you lost your mind? She is the reason he is dead in the first place,” Matilda shrieked.
She grabbed a fistful of her hair, looking like she was losing her mind, and I licked my bottom lip.
“What about this child I am carrying in my womb? He belongs to the Alpha Tyler and should be the rightful heir of the pack after his death. This wrecked woman caused his death, and you want to throne to the position? How dare you? Everyone knows that I was about to be married to Alpha Tyler,” Matilda said.
I have known Beta Kyle my entire life.
He was a kind of collective man, usually staying away from all the mess and drama. Thus, I wouldn’t have been surprised if he stood from his place now and went away.
But to my surprise, he held his ground.
He didn’t budge from his place and kept bowing to me.
Maverick looked at me with a troubled expression. I know what he was thinking. He wanted to take me away from here, all this stress that was probably bad for me and my powers, but at the same time, he tried to give me an equal opportunity to decide how to do things.
“Why?” I asked.
Beta Kyle raised his head, understanding my question immediately.
“He had written this will after the incident in the council chambers. He said he has been zoning out a lot and feels like someone else is controlling his mind. For some reason, he knew he was going to die soon, and thus, he said he wanted to write at least one mistake he made, his biggest sin. That was the reason he had this well-made,” Kyle answered.
His words were perplexing.
Tyler knew he was going to die soon. And someone else was controlling his mind? Wasn’t that precisely what he said before killing himself?
What was going on here?
“This decision cannot be made from just a will. I am not related to Hazel Moon Pack in any manner, Beta Kyle,” I said to him.
“But you are our beta family’s daughter and –” Kyle stopped, probably realizing his mistake.
He nodded in understanding.
“Even if you don’t want to take over the pack, according to the will, you should at least give us some orders to maintain law and order in the pack until you come to a final decision,” Kyle said, and I sighed.
I looked at Maverick, who nodded at me. It was probably the only right thing to do at the moment.
