Chapter 66
Fabian, explaining the details of the new project to the team, scrunched his nose when he read Sparrow’s ambiguous message.
He didn’t think much into it and continued laying out instructions according to the King’s wish.
Once he was done, he walked to the side while the rest of the team discussed potential plans for making it possible.
He opened the messenger and replied.
“Are you high?” He asked Sparrow and was about to put his phone away when Sparrow’s following message stopped him.
“I am very much sane when I say that I don’t deserve to live. Because of my negligence, the Princess suffered p>
The message said, and Fabian paused.
He forgot the rest of the message and concentrated on the highlights. Something happened to the princess.
Without wasting a second, he called Sparrow.
“What the hell are you talking about?” He asked.
Sparrow briefed him about everything that happened in the last hour, and to say Fabian was surprised would be an understatement.
“Fucking hell. Don’t lose sight of her. We will be there,” Fabian said before he walked to knock on King Cyrus’s office doo,r who was in a meeting with the alpha of the northern states.
“Sir, sorry for interrupting, but this is important. Princess got–” Fabian started, but Cyrus raised his hand.
“Is she okay?” He asked.
Fabian thought for a while and then nodded. After all, she had already.
“Then I’ll hear it later. This is important and concerns the lives of 100s of wolves in the risk-prone area,” Cyrus said.
Fabian opened his mouth to speak, but then, thinking about how important this meeting was too, and the princess was fine, he nodded and left.
Meanwhile, in the infirmary room, Kyle, who had hidden behind the curtain earlier when Sparrow had arrived to check up on the princess, came out and sat beside Amelia’s bed.
It was really beneficial to him that, for some unknown reason, he didn’t smell like a rogue. This allowed him to pass through any situation, even when he was the rogue head.
He extended his hand and brushed Amelia’s cheeks with his knuckles.
“You saved my life, sweetheart. How could I not save you? My life has been indebted to you and I would be damned if I let anything happen to you under my watch. If those people had touched you, I don’t even know what I would have done,” Kyle whispered before he stood from his seat and leaned closer to Amelia.
His lips hovered over Amelia’s lips, and he gulped.
No. This wasn’t right. Even if he wanted to claim her forcefully and make her realise that she belonged to him, he would do it when she was conscious.
With that thought, the man shifted his lips to her neck and kissed the junction between her shoulders.
“You are mine, Amelia, and I am ready to burn the world for you. This world doesn’t deserve your kindness. They never did. Thus, I’ll end your kindness or anyone who would receive it and not value it. That stupid alpha Killian, who made you cry, won’t even know what hit him,” Kyle whispered.
He tested beside Amelia, waiting for her to open her eyes as the medicine should’ve started wearing off long ago.
As if Amelia heard his silent prayer to open her eyes, her eyelids twitched and she groaned.
Opening her eyes, Amelia winced at the infirmary’s sharp light and closed them again.
This time, she opened her eyes slowly.
However, rather than facing the sharp light, she saw the face of the person who had saved her.
He blocked the light from hurting her eyes, and a warm feeling spread in her heart, just like she used to feel with that mysterious man.
That mysterious man p>
Amelia raised her hand, deep in thought, and covered the upper half of his face with her hands, focusing on his lips and jaws only because that was the only thing she could ever see through the hood of that man who appeared time after time to save her.
Her pupils dilated as soon as she covered his face and looked at him.
“You are him.” She didn’t ask a question.
She rather stated it as a fact.
“I am who?” Kyle’s cold voice appeared, just like she remembered it, and she sighed.
“The man with the scythe,” She whispered.
Now she understood why the man used to appear at the University so often and knew all about her. It turned out he was the rogue head, the one studying where she was studying.
“You recognised me,” The man said.
Amelia’s emotions turned complex.
She didn’t know the man who saved her was a rogue—the same rogue she had saved when she had fallen into the ditch, her first act of kindness after her rebirth.
Would she have saved him if she knew he was a rogue?
“You would have,” Kyle answered the question with a smirk, and Amelia realized she had said it out loud.
“Don’t presume. I hate rogues,” Amelia seethed, and the man grinned.
He chuckled softly before he grabbed her chin, forcing her unwavering attention on him.
“Sweetheart, I know how to turn hate into love. It’s a piece of cake. For you, however, I will make an exception and court you until you agree,” Kyle said.
His confession made Amelia blush.
Why? Because, for some reason, she wasn’t repulsed by his touch or presence like she would with other men.
Because this man called her his mate and fate, and since she wasn’t eighteen, she didn’t know if he was telling the truth or a lie.
“You are too full of yourself,” Amelia scoffed and tried to sit.
Kyle immediately touched her back to help her up before he smiled.
“If you are that eager, sweetheart, you can be full of me too.” He licked his bottom lip, and Amelia widened her eyes at his open flirting.
“I am a married woman,” She said, reminding him of her restrictions.
“And I don’t remember when I said I cared about it,” Kyle shrugged.
“Well, it matters to me. I have bowed my life in loyalty to him. I am married to King—” Amelia started, but before she could complete her sentence, Kyle placed his fingers on her lips.
“You can stay loyal to him. I am loyal to you. No big deal. Besides, you could be married to the moon goddess’s son, and it wouldn’t change my opinion about how I want to treat you and love my mate. So stop trying to make me think otherwise. It’s not going to happen,” Kyle said.
He was about to add more, but the room’s door opened, and he leaned quickly, placing his lips on her cheeks before he literally jumped down from the window, and Amelia’s pupils dilated.
“Princess, are you okay?” Fabian rushed inside the infirmary and looked at her flushed cheeks, his gaze deepening.
“Are you running a fever?” He asked, catching her attention.
What kind of mess did she put herself into?
Was Kyle her mate? Why did this possibility make her a little happy?
It wasn’t like she dreamt of living with him. He was a rogue, for crying out loud, and after being a rogue and suffering like that, she didn’t want to do anything of that sort.
But the thought that she had found her mate in this lifetime, that she couldn’t have done in her last life, made her happy.
It meant things were changing, and she might be able to change her fate.
A smile appeared on her face.
Fabian, who saw her smiling despite all the pain and everything she had been through, felt ashamed that their esteemed team couldn’t protect her.
