Chapter 118
“Give me your hands,” Kyle said out of nowhere.
Amelia looked at him weirdly as he stopped near a strange abandoned building.
Her heart skipped a beat when she noticed how secluded they were.
And what was stranger was the fact that even when she would’ve been panicking if it was someone else in Kyle’s place, she was atrociously calm. Her energies trusted the man, just like she trusted Cyrus.
“Why?” She asked.
Kyle didn’t say a word.
He got off the bike, making her step down too.
He removed the seat and pulled out the rope he always carries around with him for emergencies.
Without telling Amelia what he was doing, he grabbed Amelia’s hands and started tying them.
“Hey, what’s going on?” she asked with raised brows, visibly confused.
Kyle rolled his eyes at her naivety.
Her expression literally looked like that of someone with zero survival instincts, but after seeing what she did today at the Highlights Gamblers, he wasn’t so sure about how her mind processed things.
“What kind of kidnapping would it be without you being tied up?” Kyle asked.
He then led Amelia inside the forest and applied some soil on her face to look like she had struggled and was beaten up terribly. Ruffling her hair, he made her sit supported on a tree.
Amelia blinked at him, not saying anything, as he had tied a handkerchief around her mouth.
She looked at him with wide, moist eyes, and Kyle’s heart skipped a beat.
“Don’t look at me like that. At Least act scared, sad, and helpless. We are doing this for you and your husband only,” Kyle gritted out.
Amelia nodded and closed her eyes.
Scared. It wasn’t an emotion she wasn’t familiar with.
She thought about all the moments she chose to trust Hannah and give her heart over to Killian, only for them to betray her. She thought about her father, who wouldn’t look at her twice without cursing her or her deranged life that led to such a miserable death, and tears welled in her eyes.
Even now, after all this time, she was incapable of finding the reason her father and sister hated her so much. It possibly couldn’t only be because of her mother’s death, right?
Her sister wouldn’t want to ruin her to that level just for that. There must be another reason as well.
The helplessness of not being able to do anything, even after knowing half of the truth about their personality, filled her with remorse, and she opened her eyes.
Kyle paused for a second.
She wasn’t acting. Everything he saw in her eyes was true. She felt every emotion deep inside her heart, and it was visible.
Kyle snapped a few photos before walking to her and crouching on his ankles.
Amelia looked at him, waiting for him to remove the cloth from her mouth, but rather than removing it, he placed his lips on hers with the handkerchief between them.
“If only you could be mine and only mine.” He placed his forehead on hers, breathing heavily.
Amelia didn’t act repulsed. She could feel his every emotion coursing through her veins, and she gasped momentarily when the mark on her hand started aching.
It was reacting to Kyle’s presence.
“Is it too painful?” Kyle asked.
Amelia widened her eyes when he grabbed her hand with the mark and looked directly at it, his thumb massaging the mark softly.
Could he see the mark on her hand? But how was this possible? How could he p>
Because he was her mate?
Confusion clouded her head.
Was she really destined to be with Kyle? What if that was the reason things didn’t work out in her last life with Cyrus? Because she was never supposed to be with him in the first place?
What if she were the hindrance that was stopping him from becoming greater, and someone who was like a curse to his destiny?
“What are you thinking about?” Kyle asked, his brows furrowed as he removed the handkerchief from around her mouth.
“I am thinking about how I don’t deserve you,” Amelia said.
Kyle’s gaze, which had softened to show her some compassion and how much he wanted to adore her, hardened.
He didn’t say anything and just stood after removing the ropes from her hand.
Amelia could see that she hurt him, but she didn’t have any words to coax his broken heart.
Even if destiny didn’t mean for her and Cyrus to stay together, she wasn’t doing this just for herself or because she wanted to remain his wife, but because she wanted to protect him.
Once he became the king, if he discarded her and claimed another queen, she would happily protect him from the shadows.
While it was true that after her rebirth, she should have thought about her happiness and wanted to do so, she was indebted to Cyrus. Her heart wouldn’t allow her to live happily without knowing he was doing well.
“Do you love him a lot?” Kyle asked after they walked to the highway again, and he handed the helmet to her.
Amelia smiled as she wore the helmet.
“I am indebted to him. Love isn’t something I can afford. Neither yours, nor his,” she whispered.
Kyle felt her words held a deep meaning, and he took a deep breath.
He was brokenhearted for a second, but it didn’t matter. She was his, and he would ensure it, no matter how long it took.
He accelerated the bike towards the city after sending the photo directly to Fabian, knowing the photo would make its way to Cyrus immediately.
As soon as Fabian saw the photo, his hands trembled, and he sent it to his boss, who was seated in the back seat.
Cyrus opened his eyes, barely controlling Sylas, who was enraged.
He looked at the photo Fabian sent him and nearly felt an explosion inside himself.
He had already memorized half of the map in the direction they were heading when he was tracking Amelia, and thus, he directed Trevor to the location accurately.
“Go to the highway. I know these forests. They are in the way,” Cyrus said.
He suddenly felt deep sadness creeping inside him and knew it was because of the mark on his neck.
Amelia was sad. The rogues were probably tormenting her. And he hated that he had only come to know about it after such an extended period.
He observed the photo for some time. His gaze lingered on her eyes, and he zoomed in on them.
It was dark, too dark, but p>
He took a deep breath.
“Drive faster. They shouldn’t be too far,” Cyrus growled under his breath.
