I felt repulsed whenever I looked at Irvin and Julianne, I didn’t want to disgust myself any further by continuing to think about them.
Irvin knew he was wrong for what happened yesterday , so he didn’t get as angry this time.
“Emi, I know what I did yesterday wasn’t right, but look, you’re fine now. You know Lianne’s always been weak. Who knows what could have happened if I’d waited longer to take her to the hospital?
“ Yesterday, I even publicly swore there’s nothing between us, and you’ll always be my wife. So, can’t you just stop making a scene? Lianne’s situation is urgent. Let my assistant take you home.”
With that, he turned and walked away, not giving me the chance to say anything.
Watching him rust off, I frowned in disgust.
One second, he was so possessive of me, and the next second , he ran off to take care of his lover. It was ridiculous to think he had claimed nothing was going on between them!
I really wanted a peaceful divorce. However, with Irvin’s hypocrisy and nauseatingly fake affection, I couldn’t help but want to take revenge on both of them.
Isnapped out of my thoughts and turned to Shaun with a smile. “Sorry for making you witness that.”
Shaun seemed to hesitate for a moment before saying, “ If you need a lawyer, I can help you get in touch with one. He’s very well–known for handling divorce cases.”
“That’d be great. Thank you, Professor Green.”
It was good to have a backup plan in case things escalated.
“Emilia, you don’t have to be so polite with me. If it weren’t for you introducing me to Mr. Holland, I wouldn’t have made it into the research institute so smoothly.”
His words made me reflect on the past.
I had once been the star pupil who lived a carefree and smooth life. Shaun, on the other hand, had been a poor student struggling to make ends meet.
Now, he was a well–known professor, and I was a mess.
I couldn’t help but feel a pang of regret.
“Don’t be so formal from now on. Just call me Shaun.”
I smiled at him and joked, “Well, technically, you should call me Ms. Quill since I am your senior.”
That was because I started my studies with our mentor, Mr. Holland, before he did.
If I hadn’t dropped out of school for love, I could have been excelling in the field I was passionate about. Since Grandma worked in the pharmaceutical industry, I’d always been interested in medicine.
But I was afraid Jeremy would think I was competing with him in some way, so when I chose my college major, I avoided both finance and biomedical studies.
Still, I was determined to work in a related field, so I chose an emerging interdisciplinary subject, which was biophysics. My goal was to pursue a career in medical artificial intelligence, which would allow me to con to the medical field I was passionate about.

Over time, I fell in love with biophysics , and I thought I would dedicate my whole life to it .
But who would’ve thought that for a man , I’d give up a subject I loved so much to accompany him on a path of struggles in the commercial world?
And now he was untouchable, while I was a woman seeking a divorce.
It was true that if one didn’t cherish themselves , no one else would cherish them.
Shaun smiled. “I see. But you’re so much younger than me calling you that would make you sound old. Just call me Shaun, and I’ll call you Emi, okay?”
I felt that was a bit too intimate for our relationship. After all, we were still relatively unfamiliar with each other. If not for him saving me last night, we wouldn’t have had any real connection.
So, I replied with grin, “I think I’ll still call you Professor Green, my great benefactor. Let’s go and pay Mr. Holland a visit now
Shaun simply nodded with a smile.
As we were about to leave, Irvin’s assistant, Mr. Walker, arrived.
Seeing that I was about to leave with Shaun, he said with a frown, “Mrs. Sawyer, Mr. Sawyer asked me to take you home. Please hurry. I have other things to do.”
Then, Mr. Walker muttered, “For a married woman, you have no self–respect, No wonder Mr. Sawyer prefers Ms. Lianne.”
But I knew that he had uttered those things out loud for me to hear.
