Chapter 28

Simone, enraged, began cursing me out. “Emilia, you cruel bitch! Have you lost your mind? You’re downright evil! You know full well that Irvin can never be with Lianne. How could you say that? I can’t believe how vicious you are. You should’ve died in that fall!”
I was flabbergasted.
How was I the evil one here? I thought I was being kind, bringing these tragic lovebirds together!
Besides, why couldn’t Julianne be with Irvin? They almost kissed in that private room, and Julianne had always said that Irvin loved her the most.
If he loved her the most, why couldn’t they be together?
And if they couldn’t be together, why did she keep getting in the way of our marriage?
Most importantly, Irvin treated Julianne incredibly well. They weren’t formally in a relationship, but they had already done everything couples were supposed to do. How could they not be together?
I was just about to ask when the police knocked on the door and entered.
In order to force my hand, Julianne had really called the police. She probably thought that I wouldn’t be able to fight back since there were no surveillance cameras in that spot. With Simone claiming to be a witness, they could dictate the story however they wanted.
If she managed to get my shares from me with all this, she would profit; if not, sending me to prison would at least be satisfying for her.
Unfortunately for her, I had a trump card up my sleeve.
In an instant, the tables were flipped. I didn’t need to do anything; Julianne was already hastily explaining to the officers that it had all been a misunderstanding.
According to her, we were just fooling around and accidentally fell into the pond. Simone had misunderstood and called the police.
“In that case , why didn’t you talk it out sooner?” one of the officers asked.
My parents, who had entered with the police, quickly jumped in. “It’s not Lianne’s fault, sir. She developed a high fever after falling into the pond last night. When she woke up , she was rushed to the emergency room because she got the wrong medication. She didn’t know that Simone called the police.
“Besides, it should be Millicent’s fault. She’s always been malicious, even when she was

young. She hurt Lianne multiple times. That’s why Simone misunderstood her actions!”
They were my biological parents, but they had quickly jumped in to defend Julianne before the police. Not only that, they even told the police that they believed me to be inherently bad and often hurtful toward others.
They clearly didn’t care that the police might take me away for investigation.
To my surprise, Irvin spoke up for me. “Emi’s not like that. She’s not malicious; she was just jealous and threw a tantrum. She’s never genuinely hurt Lianne before.”
He still didn’t believe me.
After the police left, my parents glared at me.
“Look at how nice Lianne is! You almost killed her, yet she still helped you. And you… you’re just…” Mom trailed off. She looked like she regretted giving birth to me.
I didn’t say anything. I just laughed.
Now that I’ve come to my senses, I realize that Julianne’s tactics weren’t as flawless as I thought they were. In fact, they were actually rather illogical at times. The only reason she was able to succeed was because my parents trusted her blindly.
They believed everything she said without question. Their trust in her was so absolute that even if I threw evidence in their faces, it wouldn’t have changed a thing.
Before I left, I leaned closer to Lianne and said in a low voice, “I don’t care whether you can be with Irvin or not. You just need to figure out a way to make him divorce me!”
