Irvin’s gentle and appeasing expression darkened after hearing that. “Why bother asking something you already know, Emilia?”
What?
What was it that I was supposed to know? Why would I ask him if I knew?
Did he not understand that he was very irritating, and I didn’t want to talk to him at all?

I fought hard against the urge to strangle him. “Irvin, I know you won’t believe me, should tell you that I lost some memories after the fall.”
Irvin scoffed. “Oh, playing the amnesia card now, are we? What, you remember everything but that one specific piece of information?”
I wanted to tell him that I had forgotten everything about us and our past. I only knew about our relationship from investigating and reading my diaries. However, going by his expression, he clearly wouldn’t believe anything I said.
I lost all desire to continue the conversation.
“Fine. Even if it is true that you can never be with Julianne and that there’s nothing between you, I still want a divorce!
“I don’t want a husband who always puts another woman before me, abandoning me time and time again. I don’t know how you feel about each other, but I don’t want a husband who would disregard my life for the sake of another woman!
“Tell me,
Irvin Sawyer, truthfully–haven’t I treated you well enough? Haven’t I sacrificed enough for you? You’re capable, I know. Your success in your career is entirely your own doing. But admit it, without the startup fund I gave you back then , you wouldn’t be where you are right now!
“Now that I’m no longer valuable to you and you don’t love me, let’s just end this marriage. I’m begging you, Irvin.
“If you think it’s unfair for me to take half of what you own in the divorce, we can talk it over. If you’re worried about the company’s shares being diluted, I can sell you all my shares at below market price. I just want a divorce. Let’s part ways peacefully, okay?”
My sincere pleas finally made Irvin realize that I wasn’t just throwing a tantrum. I wasn’t just bluffing with the divorce.
I really wanted to leave him.

I didn’t want him anymore.
Abruptly, he grabbed my shoulders, his eyes filled with an intensity that felt like it could swallow me whole. “I’ve never used you for anything. I’m not refusing to divorce you because of the assets!”
“Then why not? Are you going to say you love me?” I scoffed. “Is this what you think love is? Can you even call that love?
“I don’t believe that you’re unaware of how people have mocked and humiliated me all these years. Even if you claim ignorance, you heard how your friends insulted me right in front of you. You know about that, at least, and you condoned it. If you think that’s what love is, then you’re absolutely revolting!”
Irvin stared at me. Where there was once love and devotion in my eyes, there was nothing but disdain now.
Panic suddenly overwhelmed him. Hastily, he said, “I’ve dealt with all of them! No one will treat you like that anymore!”
“Dealt with them?” I laughed coldly. “Don’t you think you’re the one who should be dealt with? Without your tacit approval, they wouldn’t dare to treat me that way.”
Irvin wanted to defend himself, but the truth was right there. There was nothing he could say
to that.
“Be a man, Irvin. Let’s get a divorce,” I told him.
“I won’t, Emi. I won’t get a divorce. We’re never divorcing! I know you’re still angry about what happened yesterday, and I admit that I was wrong. I’ll make it up to you. Please don’t divorce me!”
