I frowned. “I’m not angry because of what happened yesterday. I…”
Before I could finish, Irwin left, citing an emergency at the company.
He did this all the time. When he couldn’t argue with me or change the facts, he would walk away, leaving me to calm down on my own and swallow all my negative emotions, until time wore away my anger.
Then, because I couldn’t bear to part with him, I would do exactly that and continue being with him.
But I wasn’t the same person I used to be. Now, I wouldn’t let him leave me high and dry and still go right back to loving him.
After he left, I threw away all the things he brought, bagging them up in trash bags and leaving them outside the door before disinfecting and thoroughly cleaning the entire house. Then, I called my lawyer and asked about my chances of winning if I sued for divorce.
Irvin’s stomach had been hurting for a few days now, so he couldn’t drink alcohol. He didn’t really feel like it either. After leaving my place, he found himself at a loss for where to go or what to do.
In the end, he drove to a club he frequented.
All this time, my unwavering love had overfilled every aspect of his life. He had never felt empty or aimless; no matter what he had done, all he needed to do was look back, and I would be there waiting for him.
Therefore, he never feared the consequences of his actions.
But now, my love was gone.
All of that overwhelming love that encompassed everything was gone . For a moment, he felt like his hollow life had lost all meaning.
I was supposed to love him. Whenever I looked at him, my eyes were always full of love , like he was the only one I could see.
Why did that love suddenly disappear and turn to hate?
That time , at the hospital , he thought I still loved him even though I was deeply hurt.
But he couldn’t find any trace of love in my eyes now.

Irwin wondered if it was because he’d left me for too long. I’d been upset for three months, and yet he hadn’t given me any way to reconcile.
Or was it because he had shown concern for Julianne first, forgetting that I was also in danger and almost drowned?
Gideon watched as Irvin knocked back glass after glass of alcohol. If he continued like that, he’d end up with a stomach hemorrhage. Stepping forward, Gideon snatched the next glass out of Irvin’s hands.
This made Irvin even more irritated. He looked up and glared darkly at Gideon.
Gideon sighed. “If you care about Emilia so much, then why do you always choose to abandon her?”
He had heard what happened at Grandma’s banquet.
Originally, when Irwin had publicly declared that there was nothing romantic between him and Julianne and told everyone to stop spreading rumors, many people thought that I was the one he cared about most.
In the next moment, however, he chose Julianne’s safety over mine.
Even after I had been pulled out of the water and was tethering on the brink of death, he chose to carry Julianne, who wasn’t even hurt, away to the hospital, leaving me in the care of a
stranger. 1
I wasn’t the only one who had been disheartened by his behavior.
Even the people around him felt the same. They thought that he didn’t love me, and unlike what he claimed, he wasn’t as innocent with Julianne. He clearly loved her deeply.
