Cordelia gave me a sidelong glance. “Don’t play the pity card. It won’t work on me. My heart is as cold as stone right now!”
Cordelia had been really scarred by my past lovesick antics. She could no longer trust me now.
I felt the same as well. After getting to know all the brainless things I’d done in the past, I, too, felt that I.didn’t deserve forgiveness.
I leaned in and looked at her pitifully. “What do I have to do for you to forgive me, baby?”
“Come with me to a place, and I’ll consider forgiving you.”
My eyes brightened at that. “I would follow you to the ends of the world if that’s what it takes!
Cordelia snorted. “No need for that. Just one place will do.”
“Where?” I asked curiously, wondering what kind of place could possibly make her consider forgiving me, especially since she had been so angry with me.
“You’ll know when we get there!”
Throughout the journey, I racked my brain trying to guess where we were going. Where could Cordelia have wanted to go right after getting off a long flight?
To my surprise, it was a strip club–the kind of place where, as long as you paid, anything could be possible.
I was speechless.
Before I could say anything, Cordelia said, “Pick a male stripper to serve you here, and I’ll believe that you’ve truly seen the error of your ways!”
I gaped at her.
“What? You don’t want to?” Cordelia folded her arms, her face full of icy mockery. She looked as if her theory that I hadn’t really changed had been proven.
I had really hurt her too deeply in the past.
Then again, she still cared about me a lot. Even though she didn’t believe that I had truly repented , she still came back just because I had called her.
I threw my arms around her in gratitude. “I love you so much, darling!”
“Stop that! Look, Emilia, if you don’t do as I say today , I’m never trusting you again , no

matter what you do!”
I was just about to speak when I saw a row of handsome young men walking toward us, all lean and tall.
The sheer testosterone wafting in the air made my eyes light up.
These male strippers were quite handsome. From their looks alone, any one of them could become a celebrity!
I tugged at Cordelia’s sleeve. “You were always so busy, running around for your research. How did you find out about this place, Cordy, and why have you never brought me here?”
Cordelia scowled. “Why didn’t I bring you? Would you have come if I asked you to? Your eyes and heart are both fixated on Irvin and Irvin only. You were obsessed and out of your mind over him! If I had dared to bring you to a place like this, you’d have chewed me out!”
I didn’t have any answer to that.
It was true. I had been mindlessly in love in the past. Too occupied with a piece of trash, I couldn’t see the beautiful world around me.
But while my heart was tempted, now wasn’t the time.
“I’m in the middle of divorcing Irvin right now, Cordy. I can’t do this. It would be like handing him evidence of my infidelity on a silver platter, and he would be able to take everything in the settlement,” I told her. “Just wait. Once the divorce is finalized, I’ll book ten of these strippers and we’ll have a wild night out!”
Cordelia gave me a long, hard look. “You really forgot about Irvin?”
She knew me better than anyone in the world. Though hurt and reluctant to trust me, she could still tell from my subtle changes that I was telling the truth.
I looked her straight in the eye. “Yes.”
I thought my affirmation would make her happy. I thought she would cheer about the fact that I had finally come back to my senses .
Instead , tears began rolling down her cheeks.
She cried for some time before hugging me. “I’m sorry , Emi, for not being there for you when you were hurting the most. You must’ve been in so much pain to forget everything about him. I’m so sorry, darling.”
