Mr. Stern couldn’t help but look at me with pity. I could already guess what he was thinking.
What a tragedy. I had wasted a fortune supporting a man who turned out to be a scumbag. Even worse, my own family teamed up with the public in wishing for my death.
But I wasn’t affected by this at all because I had already anticipated it.
Julianne had always hated seeing me happy after all. Yet, despite living a video that could ruin me, she hadn’t exposed it earlier.
Besides using the video to get my parents to hate me, I guessed she also wanted Irvin to think of me as a malicious person. That way , he would feel more remorseful toward her. He would then spoil her unconditionally to make up for it.
Most importantly, Julianne didn’t want anyone to know that she had once been with Irvin’s father. This was so she could still
have a chance to be with Irvin.
But now everyone already knew about it, and she could no longer play the “ childhood sweetheart ” card. It also meant it was no longer possible for her to be with Irvin.
With things the way they were, it was only natural for her to make a final gamble with the video instead of continuing to hide it. Hence, she would find a way to make the video go viral no matter what.
My parents had always doted on Julianne. They couldn’t bear to see her even the slightest bit upset.
As for Irvin, he always said he would protect me. He also claimed things would be fine if I just apologized. However , whenever Julianne was upset, he always chose to protect her and would abandon me.
That was why things turned out this way in the end.
Right now, I could only be glad that I understood them so well and that I had made the right decision back then. I was glad I hadn’t listened to Irvin and made a public apology when I was arrested. Otherwise, I would probably be sentenced by now instead of having a chance to clear my name.
I met Mr. Stern’s gaze and smiled. “We’ll just have to find out the truth quickly no matter what it takes. The truth will surely come to light when there is a hefty reward!”
I had money. With a large enough reward, we would definitely be able to uncover something. As long as I didn’t commit the crime, there will come a day when my innocence is proven.
Mr. Stern didn’t expect me to have such a positive attitude. “Don’t worry, Ms. Quill. I will exhaust all my efforts in this investigation. You’re such a good person. You’ll surely be fine!”
I merely hummed in response.
After advising me on things to be mindful of while detained, Mr. Stern left without saying anything more.
I returned to my cell. I thought I would be able to sleep at home tonight, so I even gave away my bar of soap. Who would have guessed I would end up coming back here again?
I had kept a positive attitude in front of Mr. Stern. But the truth was, I was very uneasy. I couldn’t shake the discomfort of still being trapped in this place.
Everyone in the cell stared at me when they saw I had returned. They knew a lawyer had come to bail me out , so they thought I wouldn’t be coming back. They didn’t expect that I would return so soon.
Their gazes all carried the same unspoken question–you’re a millionaire’s wife, yet you couldn’t get out?,
I lay on my bed and closed my eyes. “I’ve instructed my lawyer to deposit a down payment into each of your accounts. The full payment will be made once I leave this place. You can ask your families to verify this.”
Everyone immediately requested to make a phone call upon hearing this. When they returned , they looked at me differently.

Money was the most reliable thing in the world. I rolled over and prepared to sleep after saying a quick thanks.
I couldn’t sleep at all last night because I had been too anxious and scared. Now that it was relatively safe, I had to get some sleep. I needed to keep a clear head in order to figure out what to do next and how to get out of here as quickly as possible.
Suddenly, I was woken up.
