“Since you’ve figured out who I am, you also know I am the true her of the Sawyer family. So, both of the companies you own belong to me! You better transfer their shares to me while I’m still asking nicely!” Amara demanded
She might have grown up spoilt in the Hardwell family, but the Hardwells favored sons over daughters. As such, she wouldn’t receive any inheritance even if she had been born as a legitimate Hardwell, let alone as one who had been birth–swapped
When Amara learned she had been swapped with a boy named Irvin Sawyer at birth, she had immediately looked into him. And when her investigation revealed the Sawyers were a decently wealthy family, she had rushed over to me.
She felt she would have been the sole heir of the Sawyer family if she hadn’t been switched with Irvin when they were born. That was also why Amara believed she had a right to my companies.
I couldn’t help but think she was slightly deranged.
“Maybe you should check again, Ms. Hardwell. My companies have nothing to do with the Sawyers!” I shot back.
“How could they not?” Amara retorted. “Irvin was raised by the Sawyer family, correct? If not, how else could he have made so much money once he became an adult?
She continued, “Just as I’ve told you–everything Irvin owns belongs to the Sawyer family, and everything the Sawyers have is mine. So you better transfer ownership of your companies to me right now!”
Iscoffed at her thug–like logic. “There’s a psychiatric hospital just to the left once you exit this building, Ms. Hardwell. Please make an appointment there to have your brain checked!”
Amara was practically bursting with rage. “I tried to be reasonable and ask you nicely, Emilia Quill, so don’t blame me for being rude!”
“Fine, I’ll be waiting,” I responded.
Then, I waved my hand to signal my bodyguards to escort her and her men out.
Seeing that I had the gall to throw her out, Amara yelled, “Don’t think you’ll be able to hold on to them just because you’ve refused to give them to me–not even in your dreams!
“If you sign them over to me right now and grovel a little, I may even leave you with something. It will be enough to allow you to live the rest of your life without worrying about money!
Her voice turned threatening. “But if you refuse to understand what’s good for you, just wait and see how I’ll make you suffer!”
Amara’s words made me frown–I instinctively felt something wasn’t right. However, I received a call before I could think about what she had said.
It was William. He wanted me to examine his friend’s son and assess his condition. The son had been in a car accident two years ago and had suffered a serious spinal injury. So, they would like to know which of my research team’s treatment methods would
suit the son.
Before ending the call, William told me he was waiting for me in front of the building.
I didn’t have time to dwell on anything else, nor deal with Amara’s tantrum. Quickly gathering my things, I went downstairs.
I spotted William leaning against his car door while waiting for me. The chilly autumn wind billowed his black trench coat when he moved off the car door, making him look suave.
Amara came running just as I was about to get in the car.
She shouted, “Don’t run away from me, Quill! I’ll—”
However, she abruptly stopped when she spotted the person holding the car door for me. In an instant, Amara went from behaving like a spoiled, rude brat to acting like a gentle, demure woman.

“Mr. Ashford, what are you doing here? ” she shyly asked.

Then, turning to me, he asked, “Ms. Quill, this is…”
William took in Amara’s appearance but didn’t show any indication he had heard her outburst earlier, despite obviously witnessing it.
Amara mustered up her most beautiful smile before saying, “I came to ask Ms. Quill about my brother’s condition.”
