Grace couldn’t help laughing at Timothy’s words.
“Do you really think I’m capable of pulling that off?” she asked, feeling incredulous.
Timothy was giving her way too much credit. If she could do something like that, would her life have been so difficult? Would she have needed to be constantly cautious of her every move?”
Timothy narrowed his eyes at Grace. A dangerous glint flickered in hem.
However, Grace was unperturbed. She was pregnant with his children, after all. And given the current situation, he needed her help if he wanted to return to the Hardwell family without inciden So, he wouldn’t dare do anything to her.
Even if he did, and even if Grace was afraid of him, she wouldn’t be able to deliver what he was demanding of her anyway.
So, Grace met his menacing glare head–on and said, “I really can’t do what you’re asking of me. You’d better come up with a new plan.”
Timothy raised an eyebrow. Reaching out to hook a finger under Grace’s chin , he tilted her face up and examined her with intrigue.
“We’ve only been apart for a short time, and yet your courage has grown so much , ” he remarked.
He was referring to how Grace was now bold enough to speak to him that way.
Unaffected by his scrutiny, she replied, “It’s not about being brave. It’s the truth. Irvin may be hung up like an idiot when it comes to love, but don’t be fooled. Despite his pathetic expression, he’s actually quite capable.
“I’ve already put my life at risk once thanks to my last scheme. And now that I’m pregnant, I’m not taking any more chances.”
When Grace had found out her first baby had developed health complications, it had been too late. So, even though she had access to the best medical care, the miscarriage had still taken a toll on her body.
Grace never wanted to go through the pain again.
It didn’t matter to her whether it was Timothy’s, Agatha’s , or even her own plan. Right now, what she cared about most was the children growing in her womb. All she wanted was to deliver her babies safely and peacefully.
Timothy glanced at her flat stomach, which showed no signs of pregnancy yet.
“Don’t get too attached to the babies–the plan comes first. You can always get pregnant again if you lose this one,” he said in an unconcerned and detached tone. It was as though the babies Grace was carrying weren’t even his.
Grace’s hands clenched at her sides. She had been pregnant the last time Timothy decided to fake his death. Yet, he went through with his plan anyway without any care for her survival.
The memory made her fists tighten further. Unable to hold back her rage, she snapped, “That’s easy for you to say! Your body won’t be paying the price if I lose the children!
“My body has already suffered a lot from my last miscarriage. If something goes wrong with my pregnancy this time too, I may never be able to bear children again!”
Grace was angrily lecturing Timothy about her physical condition because she wanted him to know how important the children she was carrying were. At the same time, she also wanted to point out how cold–hearted and cruel he had been to her.
After the way she had laid things out, she assumed Timothy would show some kind of reaction. At the very least, he would feel some guilt toward her.
Unexpectedly, Timothy retorted, “If you can’t have children anymore, then so be it. Childbirth isn’t all it’s cracked up to be anyway. It’ll only wreck your figure and your skin. It drains you physically too. And if you really want to have children in the future, just hire a surrogate!”

On a surface level, Timothy sounded as though he was being sang he and considerate of Grace’s health. But she knew, in truth , he just didn’t care at all about the babies she was carrying or even her.
“If Grace couldn’t bear children for Timothy , countless other women could. For all she knew, he might even already have a few illegitimate children out there.
“ Don’t worry about whether or not you can bear my children, Grace. You’ll always be my wife and the matriarch of the Hardwell family,” Timothy added.
In the past, if Grace had heard such reassuring words from him , she might’ve been overjoyed. She would’ve even felt her position was secure and unshakeable.
But now , she felt nothing but sorrow. She mourned the fact that everyone she had ever met was so unfeeling.
