Ava’s voice was filled with emotion because these were the things she had always wanted to tell and she genuinely believed what she was saying. Nothing was more important than being healthy and being able to live well.
Noah was smart. So, as he listened to her, he quickly understood why Ava was telling him all this.
Seeing that he understood what she was trying to convey, Ava stopped bothering with subtlety. “Don’t think Uncle Will has betrayed you, Noah. You know how good he has always been to us. He has honestly spent his entire life living just for our sakes. To him, we matter more than his own life.
“If there had even been the slightest chance that you and Ms. Quill could end up together, Uncle Will would’ve never made a move. It wouldn’t have mattered how much he liked her.
“But after all these years, Ms. Quill still didn’t develop any romantic feelings for you. That’s why he finally took that step forward.
“Would you really rather see her end up with someone else? Do you honestly prefer she find happiness with a stranger than see our dear Uncle Will be happy?” she questioned.
Noah felt hurt because he believed he had been betrayed. But Ava’s words hit him so deeply that the pain he had been feeling suddenly disappeared.
She was right. If he were to look at it from another perspective, Noah had never had a chance. Would he really rather see someone else happy with me and deny his own uncle that same happiness?
As much as he didn’t want to admit it, he had to face the truth. No matter what he did, I would always only see him as a brother.

Ava continued, “Based on what you’ve told me about your relationship with Ms. Quill, I can tell she really cares about you, Noah. She also truly only sees you as a little brother and as family. She has always been genuine with you–doesn’t she deserve to be happy too?
“Loving someone means wanting them to be happy, Noah, not forcing your feelings onto them, I know I may sound like I’m preaching to you, but the fact is, Ms. Quill just doesn’t love you that way.
“And it’s not that you didn’t pursue her or that you weren’t given enough time. It’s been long enough, Noah. So, let the people you love most be happy!” she reasoned
Noah looked at his sister but didn’t know how to respond.
Seeing how dumbfounded he was, Ava advised, “I know you really want to let Ms. Quill go and that you can’t help feeling pained and hurt. I’m not saying you have to force yourself to move on–just let time do its thing. We can…”
