Mason said, “Mr. Irvin didn’t completely cut ties with you because he no longer loved you, nor was it because he wanted to start a new life with Grace. He did it because he loves you too much!
“He thinks he’s tainted now and isn’t worthy of you anymore. That’s why he wants you to move on and find happiness with someone else. As for him, forget about starting a new life—he doesn’t even want to live anymore!
“Ms. Agatha wants him dead. She’s been feeding him food and drug combinations that are toxic when eaten together. Mr. Irvin is aware of this. Yet, he still ate them all!” he revealed..
Without even pausing for breath, Mason continued, “And there’s more! You don’t know that after he had fallen for Grace’s trap, he—all of his hair turned completely white overnight! The full head of black hair you see on him now is dyed!
“Mr. Irvin really does love you, Ms. Quill! Think about it. What man would go white–haired overnight after being manipulated into sleeping with another woman? Sincerely, Ms. Quill, there truly is no man on this earth who loves you more than Mr. Irvin!”
Mason had learned roughly what had happened between me, Irvin and Julianne from online news reports. Seeing Irvin had already admitted he was wrong, Mason, of course, wouldn’t try to claim that Irvin hadn’t been wrong in the past.
Yes, Irvin had made mistakes. But there was nothing more valuable than a prodigal son who had returned, especially when the prodigal son was as devoted as Irvin was.
The past was already in the past. What mattered now was the future. Mason believed that as long as I gave Irvin another chance, he would definitely make me the happiest woman in the world.
But even when I had faced Irvin, I hadn’t wavered. I never considered giving him another chance. So, it was even less likely that I would when someone else was helping him plead his case.
I coldly told Mason that Irvin and I couldn’t possibly ever be together again. Then, I again moved to sidestep him as he was still blocking my way.
But before I could, Mason dropped to his knees with a loud thud. “Even if you won’t take him back, Ms. Quill, I’m begging you! For the sake of what you once shared, please show some compassion and talk to him. Tell Mr. Irvin to live on. He truly doesn’t want to live anymore!”
In truth, Mason knew his pleas had even less chance of working on me when Irvin’s hadn’t. So, he wasn’t surprised by how firmly I had rejected him.
To be honest, Mason hadn’t come looking for me just to beg me to give Irvin another chance. The real reason was to beg me to persuade Irvin to continue living.
He had led with begging me to take Irvin back for two reasons. One to see if there was even the slightest chance. Two, to create a contrast , so that by comparison, his true request would be easier for me to accept.
Mason was fiercely loyal, and he especially wanted Irvin to go on living. Hence, not only had he gotten on his knees, but he was also groveling vehemently. His forehead thudded against the ground as he bowed his head repeatedly.
Seeing Mason like this made me sense that Irvin might really have given up on life. And in that moment, my emotions slipped out of control and became chaotic.
I knew Irvin had to have been set up by Grace. That was why he had slept with her. However, I never imagined it would affect him so deeply that his hair turned white overnight and even make him lose the will to live.
“Mr. Irvin cares about you most, Ms. Quill. He also listens to you more than anyone else. So, please… please talk to him and convince him to stay alive! I’m begging you, please!” Mason desperately begged.
The sound of his forehead thudding against the ground didn’t cease as he spoke. Thanks to his earnest efforts, a large bump soon swelled on his forehead.
