“As I watched the police about to take William away, Grace looked at me. She was gloating, and her gaze was full of smug
superiority.
Although her life now wasn’t quite as glamorous as she had once dreamned, I was still clearly worse off.
Irvin and William both loved me dearly. Now, the former had become an internationally wanted criminal, while the latter was about to be taken to prison.
Lite really was a wheel that never stopped turning. No one got to be lucky and live blissfully forever.
I was in no mood to deal with Timothy and Grace. My entire focus was on worrying about William.
When we rescued Irvin, we had already anticipated that our actions would be counted as harboring a fugitive. Thus, we had already prepared countermeasures.
That being said, now that that moment had actually arrived, I still couldn’t help being anxious and worried for William. I was afraid something might go wrong with our plan and that he would be dragged down by it.
Sensing my anxiety, William gave me a reassuring smile and patted my hand gently. He shot me a look that said not to worry and to just stick to the plan. Then, he left with the officers.
I didn’t leave with him because I had to stay. I had to take his place, attend the conference, and connect with the potential partner we’d been hoping to meet.
Timothy had expected me to panic and follow William to the police station. Instead, I had stayed behind and calmly carried on with the conference.
He clicked his tongue when he saw this. “It looks like the one you truly love is still my little brother, Irvin.”
I glanced at him but didn’t say anything in response.
Perhaps aware of William’s and my motive for attending this conference, Timothy wasn’t aggravated by my silence. He simply smiled and said, “Don’t waste your efforts. It’ll all be useless no matter how hard you try. Irvin will still be the head of that criminal organization.”
He believed his meticulous plan wasn’t something we could easily undo.
I still didn’t say a thing in the face of Timothy’s firm confidence.
Timothy had always been a proud man. No one had ever dared ignore him like this. So, he couldn’t stop himself from getting a little angry.
“Just wait, Emilia! You’re next!” he snarled.
Timothy had always been someone who would destroy what he couldn’t have. This was especially so for my case, given that I had ruined his plan and caused him heavy losses.
But I wasn’t afraid of him. From the moment we stood on opposite ends, I already knew this would be a fight to the death. It would either be him or me.
William had always been thorough. Maybe he had also predicted that Timothy would try something at this conference. Worried I might not be able to handle it alone, he had arranged for Noah to come too.
I hadn’t seen Noah since William and I announced our engagement. It hadn’t been that long, but seeing him again now made me feel as though a lifetime had passed.
Noah had changed so much. It was as though he had grown up overnight.
Tears welled in his eyes as he looked at me. Growing up, he truly had held on solely to the belief that he would one day be me. And when he found out I had divorced Irvin, he had given it his all.
