William’s plan was meticulous and well thought out. Its feasibility impressed not just Emilia, but even the powerful Mr. J. However, plans rarely went accordingly. Before their operation could fully commence, something had unexpectedly happened. Lauren had suddenly disappeared from her hospital room.
Emilia had been in the middle of an experiment when the hospital called. The moment she heard the news, it felt like her mind had been struck by lightning. It had gone completely blank and buzzed deafeningly.
Once her rationality returned, overwhelming panic instantly swallowed her whole.
Grace had once barged into Lauren’s room and spouted all kinds of nonsense at her. Ever since then, Emilia had doubled the security around Lauren.
The protection detail Emilia had arranged for her grandmother was so strict and tight that not even a mosquito could have flown into Lauren’s hospital room undetected.
Yet somehow, Lauren had been taken–silently, and without a trace.
Lauren’s health was already fragile to begin with. Emilia didn’t dare imagine what might happen to her. The fear made her body tremble uncontrollably, and she started to sway on her feet.
Just as she was about to collapse, a pair of strong arms caught her just in time and pulled her into a steady embrace.
“Don’t be afraid. My people are already tracking her down. I’m confident we’ll find her soon,” William reassured.
There was no denying that William truly was an exceptionally capable man. Redwood was his power base. Yet, even though they were in Claudeville, he was still able to mobilize his resources immediately and obtain the most effective updates.
Emilia had always been the kind of person who became even more composed the more afraid and panicked she felt. Though her fear had nearly knocked her down, she quickly forced herself to regain her composure.
She had been on edge. But after hearing that William had already traced Lauren’s movements, she relaxed slightly.
Emilia was truly and deeply grateful to him.
She had strong abilities in scientific research. But when it came to business, and especially situations like this, she was out of her depth. She also had absolutely no experience in this area.
William’s support had been so timely. Even if she had managed to regain her composure, she wouldn’t have been able to act as quickly or effectively. She genuinely was extremely grateful to him
Lauren was the most important family Emilia had left. She couldn’t bear anything happening to her grandmother, especially if it was because of her.
Just as William’s people confirmed Lauren’s location, Emilia received a call from the criminal organization.
“If you don’t want anything to happen to your grandmother, come to this address alone. If we so much as see another person with you, your grandmother will die on the spot!”
The address the organization had given was the same exact one William’s team had just pinpointed.
Before Emilia could say anything, the voice on the other end coldly added, “I know William Ashford’s people have already found this place, but I advise you not to try to be clever. Don’t let him arrange anything. If I sense anything even slightly fishy, you’ll never see your precious grandmother again!”
Emilia’s face instantly turned pale at those words. William’s expression darkened just as quickly.
He had already sensed that something wasn’t quite right. The fact that they had located Lauren’s whereabouts so easily and quickly had felt off. Now, he understood why.

The criminal organization had intentionally leaked the information. They were using it to humiliate William–to prove that no matter what he knew or how quickly he found the location, he still wouldn’t be able to do anything about it.
After a long, tense silence, William let out a cold and humorless laugh. Then, he summoned his most trusted right–hand man and began issuing the next set of orders.
If he were the kind of man who could be paralyzed into helplessness by this kind of threat, he never would’ve become the richest person in Redwood. He also certainly wouldn’t have held that position uncontested for so many years.
No matter what kind of unexpected situation landed in his hands, he could always quickly turn it into something that worked in his favor.
Emilia stood beside William and listened as he issued instructions for his plan. Her gaze was filled with admiration.
He truly was an extraordinarily capable man.
