I stared at the sterile white ceiling in the hospital room while my body was wrapped with the thick folder of bandages. The faint smell of antiseptic filled the air, stinging my nose as I breathed. My fingers twitched under the sheets, brushing against the rough fabric as if to confirm that I was still here, still alive.
Next to me, Commander Keane was doing everything just to ensure that the Pack doctors didn’t miss anything while. treating me.
“How long does she need to stay bedridden? What about her meal if she can’t move her jaws right now?” His constant questions about my situation made the doctors a bit annoyed, but they were bound to answer the King’s left hand’s questions without any hesitation.
The doctor explained that I couldn’t move my jaw for a while, but I could drink soup using pipes or whatever. It was a pathetic situation, no matter what it was. My lips quivered slightly when I tried to move them, and a faint pain crawled my face.

Those jerks had indeed attacked us knowing our schedule. Bad that I couldn’t get any kind of information about them. The thought made my stomach clench with frustration.
“How are you feeling, Your Highness?” Keane’s words played in the back of my mind suddenly. I glanced at him as he was standing on my left side, his eyes shadowed with a painful expression.
“Fine. Just feel like I am mummified!” I replied through the mind-link, my eyes fluttering slightly at the strain.
He chuckled and sat next to me. “It is a bad situation. But since your wolf is strong, you will heal faster. But there are some drugs in your system. Did something happen when you went missing?” he asked, his eyes full of concern and a kind of guilt.
“Lots of things happened, but it doesn’t matter anymore. Thank you, Keane. For not giving up on me!” I tried to smile, but the corners of my mouth only twitched faintly before the pain stopped me.
His eyes widened. The corner of his cheeks warmed up when I called his name only. Rubbing the back of his neck, he lowered his head, nodding.
“It’s my duty as a commander of this pack to protect our Luna. Please, no need to thank me,” he said while his eyes met the floor.
I couldn’t help but chuckle internally. He looked adorable when he was shy. My chest rose with a weak breath, the sound barely audible.
“By the way, did Sierra and Beta Lorenzo return? I left them behind when I left the Ocean Region!” My attention swiftly moved to him again as I asked through the link.
He looked up with a nod. “Sierra told me that she couldn’t find you at the airport right after she returned. I had been searching for you since yesterday afternoon p>
“Wait… Did you even go to the Ocean Region?” I asked, my heart skipping a beat as my eyes widened slightly.
He rubbed the back of his neck again and nodded quietly. “I couldn’t understand why you would take that long to return. So I decided to visit there p>
“Then Cassian didn’t even notice that I was missing for a while? Even though you were searching for me till now?” I asked, my mind reeling, my hands clenching faintly against the sheets.

“His Majesty has been dealing with a lot. Also, Miss Carolyn has been attacked by Rogues as well. Right now, she is temporarily paralysed. So, His Majesty is losing his mind and trying to find the clues as soon as possible p>
So was it why he had been so busy that he didn’t even know I wasn’t home at all? It stung, honestly. But I didn’t know my place either. I was here to become someone’s placeholder or a scapegoat. So it was understandable.

“It’s alright!” I cut him off. “I don’t mind.” My voice wavered slightly, though I tried to keep it steady.
Keane stayed quiet by my side after that. I didn’t know if he would be in trouble for spending too much time here since the entire pack was already in chaos. But he didn’t know how much I was grateful for everything he had done for me.
I wanted to ask him about the kindness he was talking about. Whatever it was, nothing could be compared to what he had done today.
I slowly looked outside the window. The orange sky with a few gray clouds reminded me of the days when I almost gave up on my life. My chest tightened at the thought, and I swallowed hard.
But today, lying on the hospital bed, inhaling the disinfectant and listening to the hum of the machines connected to me, all I could feel was gratitude for life.
If Keane wasn’t here today, I was pretty much sure that this life would have ended six hours ago. And I would do anything to repay him for this kindness as well.
Taking a sharp breath that caused pain in my chest, I winced and closed my eyes. The exhaustion and the medicine were kicking in, and I couldn’t help but fall asleep too fast.
But my body jolted when I felt pressure around us. Something darker and primal exuded the scent of Black Moon Flower. The same scent I got last night. My nostrils flared instinctively as my muscles tensed under the bandages.
A shiver ran down my spine. My pulse rose with a fast heartbeat. I felt the drumming rhythm against my throat when subtle footsteps approached me. My breathing grew shallow, my chest rising and falling rapidly.
Who could it be? No, if there was someone, Keane should have noticed. But what if he left? My eyes fluttered open slightly, darting around though everything seemed dim and blurry.
My palms started sweating profusely under the bandage while all I could do was hold my breath.
“So this is Roana Milestones!” A sharp, cold, and beastly voice hit my eardrums with terror. “She is still alive after falling off the cliff. Interesting p>
I couldn’t understand what he was doing, but I felt his warmth. He was close to my face; I could sense the faint heat of his breath brushing over my skin. My heart started pounding like crazy once again. My throat dried in tension and panic.
“What are we going to do?” Another voice came from behind, cold and casual. It seemed like the first one was in his wolf’s form. “She saw our hideout p>
“Don’t worry. The doctor said she had drugs in her system. Once she wakes up, she will think of it as a nightmare p>
And suddenly, a hand pressed right on my forehead, pressing it so hard that I thought he would crush my skull. My fingers twitched, trying to push away, but they barely moved. Instead of the bone-crashing pain, I felt my brain being plucked. A painful gasp escaped from my throat as my eyes opened wide, but I couldn’t see anything except darkness.

The moment his presence faded, I felt my entire body collapse into trembling relief. My breath came out in uneven gasps, and my lashes fluttered weakly before everything went still again.
