I felt like my chest dropped to the ground with the realization that I might have lost him. The pulse wasn’t there. The mate-bond that throbbed just seconds earlier quieted down as if it had never existed. The sudden silence rang louder than any scream, making my ears buzz and my breath stutter.
Tears streamed down my face as I stood there, my body frozen, my fingers numb and curling inward, my emotions at the surface with nowhere to go. My throat burned as if something sharp was lodged there, refusing to let me breathe properly.
“He died for me?” I whispered to myself, my lips trembling as if I was trying to hear it from someone else. “Did he really die? I can’t see any more visions of him!” My voice cracked halfway through, the words falling apart as they left my mouth.
Draken, who was holding my shoulders to support me, muttered, “You can’t usually see the visions of someone who isn’t near to you p>
“I am not seeing his future. I am seeing my future, and he isn’t there.” My chest hitched, my hands clutching at my clothes as if I could hold my heart together by force.
Draken looked horrified but held me close. My knees buckled, and I dropped to the ground, the impact barely registering as pain tore through my chest. A broken sob escaped me as my shoulders shook violently, my body folding in on itself while I tried to convince myself that this was a bad nightmare.
I was still in his bedroom, sleeping in his arms. But the cold breeze brushing against my skin, the starry sky above me, and the distant howling of the wolves didn’t let me believe it. My teeth chattered, whether from cold or shock, I couldn’t tell.

He looked puzzled but nodded. “You would have died if Cassian didn’t heal you first. A Lycan’s healing power is ten times stronger than ours. Even our Sister couldn’t heal you p>
My eyes narrowed, stinging as more tears spilled over. Not only did he heal me, but he also sacrificed himself for me. My nails dug into my palms until they hurt. How could I repay him for this? How could I live without him?
“That’s great,” I chuckled softly, the sound breaking halfway and coming out wrong. “That means I don’t have to worry about living alone p>

Draken pulled me into his arms and tightened the hug. My body shook uncontrollably against his chest as I finally broke. I couldn’t hold it anymore. All the pain, loss, and fear poured out in broken cries. The quiet night became the witness to my misery. I was hopeless and lost, with no desire to live this life anymore.
I couldn’t erase his smile, the way he held me while the fire showed no mercy to him. My chest ached with every memory. He was there, blaming himself for everything, his face twisted with guilt. When it was me who agreed to be there, me who knew I was letting myself be his replacement Luna until Elle returned. But now he died blaming himself for bringing me into this mess.
“I really want to die. Please, Moon Goddess, let me die,” I muttered through tears and agony, clinging to Draken as my fingers fisted into his clothes, afraid he might disappear too.
“Roana. Listen to me. Wishing to die won’t change anything.” Draken’s voice was sharp and cold. “Have you forgotten that Tyran is still alive p>
His words made me freeze. My sobs caught painfully in my throat as I looked up, hiccups and tears clinging to me like shadows.
“Listen, I am here not to take you to Mortia or anything.” He gently broke the hug and took out his handkerchief.
