His words sent whispers rippling through the crowd
Having that wound ripped open made my chest ache all over again
The baby… I’d fought so hard to conceive,
But to Ethan, my pain just looked like proof I couldn’t get over him.
Sebastian wrapped his arm around my waist, rubbing soothing circles on my back.
Ethan stared at Sebastian’s hand like he wanted to burn it off, screaming:
“Charlotte, you’ve really outdone yourself! You know Sebastian and I hate each other, so you roped him into this little performance to win me
back p>
“And you, Sebastian-are you out of your goddamn mind? Playing along with her games? What did she promise you to make this fake wedding worth your time p>
“Charlotte, this is your last chance. Get your ass over here right now! I’ll forget about this whole stunt and let you keep living in my house p>
I didn’t bother responding. Sebastian laughed coldly.
“Ethan, you’re the one who’s lost it. My wife doesn’t need to keep living in YOUR house p>
Sebastian gestured to his assistant, who handed over a thick stack of property deeds.
Every single one had only my name on it.
“These are all my properties, sweetheart. Every last one belongs to you now. Beach house, penthouse, historic mansion-whatever you want, whenever you want it p>
Envious murmurs swept through the crowd:
“Those properties are worth billions. Sebastian’s not messing around p>
“Looks like he really sees Charlotte as his treasure p>
“God, some people have all the luck p>
I could feel Sebastian standing up for me, and it touched something deep in my chest.
But Ethan still refused to believe we were actually getting married:
“This is impossible! Absolutely impossible p>
“Charlotte took a knife for me! She put up with me having kids with another woman! Everyone knows how crazy she is about me-she’d never actually marry you p>
“I get it now-you two made some shady deal behind the scenes, didn’t you? Sebastian, Charlotte’s damaged goods, and she can’t even get pregnant! Your family’s bloodline hangs by a thread-you want to end it completely p>
Sebastian’s face went murderous, but before he could explode, I slapped Ethan across the face.

Everyone else could judge me for it-but not him.

Years ago, his reckless business decisions had made him a lot of enemies.
Too many people wanted to destroy him permanently, so when he went overseas on business, they made their move.
Dozens of hired thugs cornered him. Our bodyguards didn’t stand a chance.
When one of them came at him from behind with a blade, I threw myself in the way. That knife stole my ability to be a mother.
He cried at my bedside for three days, swearing he’d never let me get hurt again.
And now he was using that sacrifice to humiliate me.
Rage burning through me, I slapped him again.
He stared at me in shock.
“Ethan, my relationship with Sebastian is none of your damn business p>
“You hit me? You hit me for HIM p>
Ethan looked absolutely stunned. His cocky confidence cracked, replaced by something like panic.
His voice went soft, almost pleading: “Stop this, Charlotte! I’ll give you anything you want-but marriage isn’t a joke p>
I looked out at the assembled guests and spoke clearly:
“I, Charlotte Chase, willingly take Sebastian Cross as my husband today. Not because of anyone else’s influence p>
Ethan’s brow furrowed, his expression darkening.
Just as the standoff reached its peak, the hotel doors burst open.
Lily walked in with both kids in tow.
