Under the night breeze, her face looked striking, calm, and untouchable. Brad glanced at her and asked, “Does your foot hurt?”
Rylie tapped her toe against the ground. “These new pointed shoes always squeeze my feet. It’s nothing.”
“Wait here,” Brad said. “I’ll get the car.”
She stayed put. Soon, a black SUV rolled up. Then, chaos erupted by the swimming pool outside the casino. A crowd burst through the doors, panic spilling out.
“Someone jumped! Call the police!”
Black Tiger’s muscular body floated lifelessly, blood seeping into the pool. The bloodstained corpses near the wall, close to the second-floor private room, left the arriving security guards pale with terror.
The mastermind behind it all slipped quietly into the SUV’s backseat, watching the chaos with calm detachment.
Brad knew Rylie was involved but chose to drive away without a word.
As Rylie leaned back in the car and closed her eyes, she suddenly asked, “What’s your connection with Ronan? Can you tell me?”
Brad glanced at her through the rearview mirror. “He’s a supplier of military medical equipment.”
Rylie lifted her gaze, curiosity flashing in her eyes. “Oh? With those kinds of connections, he still dares to run a bar? Doesn’t he fear that your enemies will target him?”
“His maritime medical equipment is unique. It’s a family craft with patents, so he gets plenty of respect and is under perfect protection.” Brad kept his voice even. “As long as he doesn’t cross any lines, he’ll be fine.”
“He works with the Wilde family. Their actions harmed patients,” said Rylie. “You didn’t cover for him too, did you?”
“No,” Brad answered. “He asked me to help clear his name. With pressure from the vice mayor, there was no proof of trafficking or embezzlement. Every charge got pinned on the Wilde family. Maybe someone wanted it that way.”
Rylie turned to the window, tapping her chin. “If he ends up dead, that would cause trouble, wouldn’t it?”
Brad was silent for a moment before saying, “Unless his family publicly shares their patented technology, his presence is indeed necessary. The naval medical equipment relies on their maintenance and updates. If something goes wrong, my soldiers would lose medical support.”
Rylie asked again, “How are things out at sea? You look tired. Your eyes have dark circles.”
Brad gave a small smirk. “What’s this? Worried about me?”
“I’m worried about my country,” Rylie said flatly.
Brad chuckled under his breath. “Sure you are. The next seabed oil negotiation happens next month. If no agreement is made on distribution, there’ll be a fight.”
She stayed quiet for a bit, then asked, “Will you let me see the medical gear on board someday?”
“Sure,” Brad said without missing a beat.
Rylie glanced over at him. “Seriously? Aren’t you afraid of the consequences? In this way, the military secrets will be exposed to me.”
