Benjamin’s eyes were filled with a raw, cold anger.
Rebekah scowled and took a step back.
“It has nothing to do with you anymore, does it?” she replied coolly.
In the next moment, Jensen stepped forward, his hand hovering near the small of her back in a gentlemanly gesture. The warmth from his palm seemed to seep through her dress, instantly dispelling the wave of hurt and humiliation that had washed over her. Rebekah felt her heart steady, and she fought back the sudden urge to cry. Was this what it felt like to have someone in her corner? In her entire life, she had never
felt so supported.
She looked up and met Jensen’s gaze. His dark, charming eyes were deep enough to get lost in, and her heart fluttered.
Watching their interaction, Benjamin’s eyes grew colder, his fury almost palpable. Even knowing she was likely trying to provoke him, he couldn’t suppress the rage boiling inside him. This time, she had gone too far. Staging a scene like this at a major business gala-had she no thought for the consequences? He had been too lenient with her.
“Nothing to do with me?” Benjamin let out a cold laugh. “Do you really think you’ll have a better life with him after you leave me?” He paused, his gaze sweeping contemptuously between them. “With a powerless pretty boy like him? Your hands and legs are practically useless. How do you expect to survive p>
“Once you’re out of my house, you’ll have nowhere to go,” Benjamin concluded grimly.
He really knew how to hit her where it hurt. Eight years together, and he knew all her weak spots. But who was the one responsible for her condition in the first place?
She let out a cold laugh. Benjamin had clearly misunderstood her relationship with Jensen, but she was too tired to explain. “That’s not your concern,” she said flatly. “Mr. Forrester, just sign the divorce papers, and we can go our separate ways p>

If he could send her, his wife of eight years, to prison for another woman without a second thought, what would he do to someone like Jensen, who had no powerful family to back him up?

The longer he looked at the man, the more familiar he seemed, but he couldn’t place him. *Probably just another pretty boy with a generic face,* he thought dismissively.
Jensen met his gaze without flinching, a perpetual half-smile on his face, as if he were looking at an ant. He gestured with a slight tilt of his head toward someone behind Benjamin. “Mr. Forrester is harassing this lady,” he said in a lazy drawl. “Mr. Griffin, as one of the event’s hosts, don’t you think you should intervene p>
Rebekah then noticed a well-dressed man approaching them. Mr. Griffin paused when he saw them, then a broad smile spread across his face as he strode over. “What’s going on here p>
Benjamin’s expression softened slightly, banking the fire in his eyes. He knew Mr. Griffin of The Capital’s Griffin family, one of the event’s organizers. Although the established elite and the new money like himself often looked down on each other, it was wise to show some respect.
