Sensing his foul mood, Rebekah didn’t say a word and simply followed him upstairs.
Behind her, she heard Shawn’s whining voice as he clung to his grandmother. “Grandma! I don’t want this loser for a mom anymore! You promised Dad would marry Aunt Candice. Can’t you make them get married soon p>
“I can’t wait for Aunt Candice to be my new mommy,” the boy chirped, his voice full of hope.
A bitter smile touched Rebekah’s lips. She truly was a failure of a mother.
Inside the study, Old Mr. Forrester sat down and fixed Rebekah with a stern look. “Rebekah, you shouldn’t have done this.” His voice was utterly devoid of warmth.
It was clear to Rebekah that he, too, believed she was responsible.
“Grandfather, I didn’t do it,” she explained, her voice edged with desperation.

Rebekah fell silent.
