“There’s nothing to thank me for. It’s a good thing Jensen got there when he did. I can’t imagine what would have happened otherwise p>
Rebekah nodded, a wave of residual fear washing over her. “How did you two know I was kidnapped p>
“You never showed up, and your phone was off. I got worried and called Jensen, and he Daphne paused for a split second before continuing smoothly, “He called Faye, and the Hawthornes used their resources to check the traffic cameras. They found you that way p>
“Oh, I see. I’m so grateful to all of you p>
After applying the patches, Daphne studied Rebekah’s face. Jensen had told her what happened, and she had expected Rebekah to be in a state of shock. But she seemed surprisingly resilient. When Daphne first saw her at the door, her face was a mask of fear and vigilance. Now, she was composed, as if nothing had happened. But an ordeal like that had to leave a mark.
She patted Rebekah’s shoulder gently. “Let’s go back outside p>
Rebekah nodded. As soon as they stepped out of the bedroom, Jensen was there.
“How is she p>
“She’s fine,” Daphne reported. “The bruising on her wrists and ankles is the worst of it. I put some patches on, and she should apply a cold compress before bed p>
Jensen nodded.
Daphne glanced at the time. “I have to get going. I have another appointment p>
After she left, Rebekah turned to Jensen. “Thank you for today p>
“Are you… really okay?” he asked, his eyes searching hers.
“I’m really okay,” she said, offering him a small smile to reassure him.
But her composure didn’t fool him; his heart remained heavy with worry. This wasn’t the first time she’d been kidnapped. It had happened once before, when they were abroad She had acted the same way then-outwardly calm, but inwardly traumatized, plagued by nightmares for weeks.
Thinking of that, he felt he’d been far too merciful with Sienna.
“I ordered some food. Eat something, then get some rest p>
Rebekah nodded again. “Thank you p>
She was quiet during the meal. Jensen kept glancing at her, his concern palpable, until she finally couldn’t take it anymore.
“Relax, I’m really fine,” she said, a hint of a real smile touching her lips. “You think I’m still that scared little girl from all those years ago p>
He saw no cracks in her facade and finally allowed himself to relax a little. “You’re still a girl to me. What’s wrong with me worrying about you?” he retorted with a devil-may-care grin that made her blush.
This man. How could he be so serious one moment and such a rogue the next?
After dinner, Jensen stayed with her until she fell asleep, then settled onto the living room sofa. He decided it was best to stay the night, just in case.
Meanwhile, at the Forrester Estate, a storm was brewing. Benjamin had been calling Rebekah’s phone for hours, only to be met with a
disconnected message every
gut feeling told him something was wrong, and he immediately sent his men to find her.
The atmosphere in the main living room was tense. Old Mr. Forrester coughed,
his wrinkled face turning red with the effort. “Find Rebekah, no matter what it takes. We’ve just established a connection with the Hawthornes. We can’t afford to ruin it now p>
Benjamin didn’t say a word. He sat
for another moment before grabbing his car keys and standing up decisively. Right now, he didn’t care about the Hawthornes. The taxi Rebekah had been in was last seen heading for the outskirts of the city. Something had happened to her.
He had to find her.
