Mason Wilde was waiting by the entrance. His eyes widened slightly when he saw Jensen get out of the car with Rebekah, but a sharp look from Jensen made him quickly school his features back to normal.
“This is my friend,” Rebekah said, introducing Jensen.
Mason gave Jensen a polite nod before getting down to business. “The man we’re looking for is named Grant p>

Rebekah frowned. Wasn’t that Yvonne’s brother? “Are you sure it’s him?” she asked, finding it hard to believe. They had just had a confrontation at the university anniversary event a few days ago.
“I’m positive. I went over the surveillance footage from the surrounding roads on the day of the accident. He appeared on a road near the crash site. After digging deeper, I confirmed it was him p>
Seeing the troubled look on her face, Jensen asked, “You know him p>
“Yes, he’s Yvonne’s brother. He’s the one who caused a scene at the anniversary event.” Jensen already knew about that, so Rebekah didn’t have to elaborate.
Jensen nodded and placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder. “It’s okay. Let’s go.” His voice was firm and steady, and it immediately put her at ease.
Mason led the way to the building farthest from the main gate. They climbed the stairs to the seventh floor. Rebekah, not used to so much climbing, felt her legs begin to tremble by the time they reached the top. She was panting for breath, her face flushed and a thin layer of sweat on her forehead.

Rebekah had grown numb to him calling her ‘Bekah’ as a tease, noticing he only did it when he was about to make fun of her.
She glanced up at him and saw that he, after climbing seven floors, wasn’t even winded. The difference in their stamina was almost frightening. She shot him a mock glare and said nothing.
Jensen chuckled and pulled out a tissue to wipe the sweat from her forehead.
Rebekah took it from him. “Thanks, I can do it myself,” she said, her tone a little pouty, annoyed that he was enjoying her struggle.
A warmth spread through Jensen’s chest. Was she sulking with him?
Beside them, Mason Wilde cleared his throat softly. It was the first time he had seen Mr. Hawthorne with such a.. fovestruck expression. He decided it was best not to look

As if on cue, Jensen’s eyes flicked toward him, the playful warmth in them instantly replaced by a sharp, cold light.
Mason quickly turned and knocked on the apartment door. After several knocks, a groggy male voice called from inside.
“Who is it?” The voice was slurred but loud, suggesting he’d been drinking.
A moment later, the door creaked open. When the man-Grant-saw Rebekah standing there, his eyes shot wide open and he sobered up instantly. His first instinct was to slam the door shut.

“Can we talk?” Jensen asked.
“I have nothing to talk to you about! Get out, or I’ll call the cops for trespassing!” Grant yelled, his voice tight with panic.

By now, most of Grant’s drunken
haze had cleared. Seeing that he couldn’t close the door and that the three of them weren’t leaving, he
hesitated for a moment before finally letting them in.
