Chapter 8
Amelia was picked up from her parents‘ house by a cab her mother had called.
She waved her mother goodbye as she entered the car, making her way to the new pack.

She watched her sister from the car window, hands akimbo, glaring at her with no expression in her eyes. Not even a goodbye. Her heart shattered into pieces.
Amelia and Gloria had been close since childhood. She couldn’t understand what had gone wrong, or why Gloria suddenly hated her.
It couldn’t just be because she married Aiden. That wasn’t reason enough to hate her own blood sister.
She sighed, glancing one more time at her father’s house, silently hoping he would come out and at least say goodbye. But he didn’t.
She smiled sadly as tears welled in her eyes. Her mother kept waving, while the taxi drove away. Amelia didn’t know why, but it felt like she was saying goodbye to her family, and this pack forever.
She sighed, lost in her own thoughts. Thinking about her daughter. Her husband…no, her ex–husband. She still couldn’t get over the pain of losing her child, her marriage, and her mate all in one day. And now, even the roof over her head.
Today, she was leaving for another pack. Though deep down, she wished Aiden would appear out of nowhere and stop her from going.
She felt the urge to run back and hug him one last time. She had been with this man for years. He had become part of her daily routine. Him and their daughter. Now, she was just going to leave it all behind and start all over again.
She brushed her thumb against her cheek, wiping her tears. She waited for her wolf to say something, to comfort her… but her wolf was silent. Too weak to speak.
She had been fading since the rejection. It felt like she had died and Amelia knew it would be difficult to regain her. That was if she ever would come back.
More tears rolled down her cheeks. No one had imagined a day would come when she would lose everything she had prayed for and worked so hard to protect.
She had been so happy the last few years, and even up to yesterday, she never expected life to fall apart like this.
She turned to the window and watched as the car approached the border. They were almost out of the pack.
She thought Aiden loved her. How could he let her go like that? And even believe she poisoned their daughter? She shook her head and smiled bitterly.
This was goodbye now. No matter how much it hurt. She needed to leave. She stared at Eva’s picture on her phone’s wallpaper. She smiled softly.
Her thoughts were interrupted when the car suddenly came to a stop.
“Driver, what’s wrong?” Amelia asked, looking around. They were still in Red Moon Pack but close to the boarder… Why had he stopped?
“I think there’s something wrong with my tyre, I’ll check it out,” the driver assured, and she nodded, relaxing a bit as she watched him step out.
She closed her eyes briefly.

Then…
A loud gunshot. Her own scream.
She jolted upright, heart racing.

Blood splattered across the car windows. Her eyes widened. Her scream was caught in her throat. Her hand flew over her mouth as she began to shake violently.
The driver… he was dead.
She didn’t know what to do. Open the door? Run? Her heart pounded wildly in her chest.
But before she could decide, the door was flung open, and a man wearing a mask grabbed her roughly, yanking her out of the car and shoving her to the ground.
She groaned in pain as tears filled her eyes.
“Please, don’t kill me… please. I’m pregnant… please,” she begged, trembling as she looked up at the three masked men surrounding her, all dressed in black.
“I’m sorry. We were paid to kill you. We couldn’t refuse an order from the Alpha,” one of them said.
Amelia froze, more tears spilling from her eyes.
Aiden had sent someone to kill her?
They didn’t give her time to process it.
One
of them kicked her in the stomach.
She screamed.
Another blow hit her face. Blood spilled from her mouth.
The men burst into laughter, clearly enjoying her pain.
“Please,” Amelia managed to beg again, clutching her belly, trying to protect her unborn child.
Another kick. Her body curled instinctively, the pain unbearable.
“Go on, beg us… plead for your life,” one of the men sneered, pulling out a phone and filming her.
“Please… don’t kill me…” Her voice was barely audible. She could hardly hear herself through the ringing in her ears. The pain… it was indescribable. Why did Aiden want her dead? He rejected her. He broke her. He took her wolf. Wasn’t that enough?
What more did he want from her?
How could he be so cruel to the woman he once claimed to love?
“I can’t hear you,” one of them hissed. He pulled her up and punched her in the stomach again, then threw her back to the ground.
“Say goodbye to your baby,” another muttered, pointing a gun at her.
She closed her eyes, ready for it to end when she suddenly felt warm blood flowing down between her legs.
“She’s dead, Dante. Let’s go. Before the border patrol shows up,” one of them said, and the three men took off running.
Amelia lay on the ground, too weak to move. Blood pooled around her.
