Inside the ward, Alpha Alaric paced back and forth, fury etched across his face. His phone was clutched tightly in his hand, call after call to his son going unanswered.
“How could he do this?” he muttered through clenched teeth. “He’s the Alpha, yet he makes reckless decisions as though he were still a child. Going live on national news with that… nonsense. Amelia must have gotten into his head. Now the whole pack will turn on him. He’s making himself look like the villain p>
He dragged a hand down his face, exasperation rolling off him.
On the bed, Luna Donna shifted weakly, her cough breaking the silence. She managed to raise her head. “Do you think… he’s planning to go back to Amelia p>
Alaric froze, then turned to her. He immediately poured her a glass of water and helped her drink. Once she set the cup down, his jaw tightened. He sat at her side, his voice low but hard.
“Over my dead body will I let that happen,” he growled. “The only reason I allowed their union the first time was because the pack demanded it. If they didn’t bond, Aiden would have been called weak. But now? Never again. She’s married. He’s married. That chapter is closed p>
Donna’s frail eyes studied him, sharp despite her illness. “And the boy? The one who looks like Aiden? Do you truly believe he isn’t his p>
Alaric stiffened. He had fed Donna every detail of the news outside the hospital, she knew everything. His lips pressed into a thin line.
“I don’t know what to think,” he admitted. “The resemblance is… uncanny. Same age as Ethan. And she was pregnant when she left. But…” He shook his head, as if banishing the thought. “No. I won’t let myself believe it p>
Donna sighed and touched his arm gently. “She hates us, Alaric. After all we did to her, do you really think she’ll give us the cure p>

Donna’s brows furrowed. Suspicion flickered across her pale face. “What did you do this time p>
Alaric avoided her gaze, then finally looked her in the eye. He took her hand into his own, his grip firm. “If she refuses… she’ll never see her family again. I’ve ensured it p>
Donna’s eyes widened, but before she could speak, his finger pressed against her lips, silencing her. “Enough. Save your strength. The doctor will be here with your dosage p>
She reluctantly nodded, though her gaze lingered on him with quiet worry.
Meanwhile, Cassia moved briskly through the hospital hallway, checking wards one by one, administering injections and treatments. Yet something felt off. Everywhere she went, people stared at her with wide eyes, some whispering, others offering smiles that felt too kind, too cautious.
What’s going on? she wondered, forcing herself to focus on her work.
She reached the last ward and opened the door, only to freeze,

“Amelia.” Donna breathed.
Cassia’s spine stiffened. She forced a tight smile. “Doctor Cassia,” she corrected firmly.

Donna nodded quickly, her voice soft. “Yes… Doctor Cassia. I’m glad you’re alive. Thank you for coming to save me p>
Cassia narrowed her eyes, suspicion rising. This sudden warmth,?where had it come from? Donna had never approved of her. Not once. Neither had Alaric. She remembered the hatred, the disdain. And now they acted as though they cared? Pretending. Always pretending.
“I didn’t come for you,” Cassia replied flatly. “I came for the people. For my family p>
Donna’s gaze shifted uneasily to Alaric. He held his expression like stone. “We are all family here, Doctor Cassia,” he said smoothly. “You are part of this pack, and that makes you part of us p>
Cassia’s lips curled into a humorless smile. “Of course.” She said no more.
She walked to the bedside, took the syringe from the nurse, and injected it into the IV line. “This will help manage the symptoms and ease the pain. I’ll be back tomorrow for another check.” She signed the file handed to her, clipped it shut, and turned. “Have a good day p>
Without waiting for a response, she walked out, leaving them behind.
Alaric exhaled slowly, then stood.
“Where are you going?” Donna asked, her voice weak.
“Home,” he said, his face hard. “I need to talk some sense into Aiden p>
And with that, he left.
Later, Cassia sat in her office, packing her bag to head home. Her phone vibrated. She glanced at the caller ID and her heart leapt.
“Mom,” she whispered, answering at once.
“My sweet daughter,” Seraphina’s voice washed over her like a balm. “How are you p>
Cassia’s throat tightened. Just hearing her mother’s tone soothed the storm inside her. “I’m okay, Mom. How about you? And Beta Kael p>
“We’re fine,” Seraphina assured her. “Kael is stable. Damien made it home safely. But I’m worried about you and Arthur. Is Aiden troubling you? Tell me the truth p>
Cassia hesitated, swallowing hard. “No, Mom. He’s not.” The lie slipped out before she could stop it. How could she explain the chaos of emotions Aiden stirred in her?
“Are you sure?” Seraphina pressed. “Because the news says otherwise p>
Cassia frowned. “News? What news p>
“You haven’t seen it p>

“Then watch for yourself p>

Cassia reached for the remote and switched on the TV. Her breath caught.

Aiden filled the screen, standing before the press, declaring his sins to the world. Confessing that he had lied, that Amelia had never killed Eva. Promising justice. Promising revenge on the true culprit.
Her chest tightened, breath catching. His final words echoed in her ears, cutting through the years of pain.

Cassia’s hand trembled. She shut off the TV at once, but the words lingered, replaying in her mind.
“Amelia? Are you there?” Seraphina’s voice broke through the line.
“Yes, Mom. I’m here.” She forced steadiness into her tone. “Can I call you back later p>
“All right, my love,” Seraphina said gently before the call ended.
Cassia lowered the phone and collapsed into her chair. Memories surged back, the day she woke from her coma to hear Aiden condemning her on television, branding her a murderer and announcing his new marriage.
And now… this. His public apology. His vow to find the real killer.
She pressed a trembling hand to her forehead. What are you playing at, Aiden?
