Meanwhile, Damien, who had left for the hospital early that morning to get the test results from the syringe, finally returned to the pack house.
He pushed the front door open and walked in. The moment he stepped inside, his eyes caught the sight of Seraphina at the dining table and his father, Beta Kael, eating beside her. They hadn’t noticed him yet.
Seraphina was on a phone call, her tone excited. He instantly knew who she was speaking to, his beloved Cassia. The phone was on loudspeaker.
“So tell me,” Seraphina’s voice teased warmly, “do you love Damien? Does he make you feel the electric spark p>
Silence followed on the other end. Cassia didn’t answer right away. Damien froze in place, his chest tightening. His pulse raced as he stared at Seraphina, waiting, desperately hoping Cassia would say something, anything. But seconds stretched like hours.
His palms grew clammy. His heart slammed against his ribs. He glanced at Kael, who pretended to focus on his food, but Damien knew better. His father was waiting and hoping Cassia would deny loving him, just so he could laugh in his face and break him further.
Finally, Cassia’s voice came through the speaker, steady but soft.

The air rushed out of Damien’s lungs. Relief. Joy. Disbelief. His entire body trembled as butterflies swarmed his stomach. After seven years of waiting, yearning, and silently carrying his love for her, Cassia had finally said it. His wolf purred with satisfaction, surging with pride. His heart leapt, pulling him back toward Red Moon Pack, toward her. He couldn’t wait any longer, he wanted to claim her and to make her his.
He stood there smiling like a fool, lost in thoughts of Cassia, until Seraphina’s voice snapped him back.
“Hey, Damien, when did you arrive?” she asked.
He walked forward. “I just came back from the hospital not long ago,” he said, his smile lingering.

Damien’s gaze flicked to Kael. His father’s eyes met his for the briefest moment before sliding away, cold and unreadable. Damien sat down anyway.
“So,” Seraphina asked, curiosity lacing her voice, “what were you doing at the hospital p>
Damien’s gaze shifted between her and Kael, then settled on Seraphina. His jaw tightened.
“I had your injection tested,” he said.

She pushed her chair back, her breathing uneven. “Oh my God. That bastard! How could I be so stupid not to check the syringe? And I’m a doctor!” She raked her fingers through her hair, fury crackling in her eyes.
Kael’s fork paused midair, his jaw tightening. Damien’s fists clenched under the table, holding back the storm. inside.
“Kael,” Seraphina snapped, “you need to find Doctor Williams. Send the best trackers we have and drag him. back here, I want to know why he gave me the wrong drugs. I’ll kill him with my own hands if I must p>
Kael pressed his lips together, then forced a small smile. “There’s no need. Doctor Erik already left Velaris yesterday. But I’ll order the border patrol to keep watch. If he returns, we’ll capture him p>

Damien shook his head. “Your health comes first. I’ll put you on the right drugs and monitor you. In six days, you’ll be fine again. And after that…” His eyes gleamed. “After that, I’ll return to Red Moon Pack to be with Cassia p>
Both Seraphina and Kael raised their heads at once, tension sparking across the table.
“Does Cassia know you will be returning in six days time?” Seraphina asked.
“No. I plan to surprise her. And when I arrive, I’ll finally claim her. I’ll make it official.” His lips curved into a smile, joy radiating from him.

“I know she will,” Damien said firmly.

Damien dragged his hand through his hair in frustration, then leaned forward, his voice low and sharp. “Earlier, I didn’t tell Seraphina that it was you who masterminded the syringe. I didn’t tell her you were the one who helped Williams escape Velaris. I kept quiet for now. But if you don’t stop this, I will tell her. And I’ll watch as your head is taken off in front of the entire pack p>
Cold fear washed over Kael, though he masked it quickly.
