The pencil in Aurora’s hands snapped. The sound was like a gunshot in the quiet boardroom.
Aurora stood up. Her chair didn’t make a sound. Her face was terrifyingly calm, but her eyes were like nuclear winter.
“Stay there, Grandpa,” Aurora said. “Tell Joe he isn’t going anywhere p>
“What are you going to do?” Arthur asked.
“I’m buying the building,” Aurora said.
She hung up. She looked at the board members.

Aurora walked into her office like a hurricane. Victor King followed her, looking terrified.
“Get me the ownership records for Long & Sons Property Management,” Aurora ordered.
Victor typed furiously on his laptop. “They own six complexes in The Bronx. Valuation is roughly forty million p>
“Buy it,” Aurora said.
Victor choked. “All of it? Aurora, that’s a huge chunk of your liquidity p>
“I said buy it,” Aurora repeated. “Offer twenty percent above market. Cash. Close in one hour p>
She picked up the phone and dialed Lionel Long, the owner.
Lionel was a greasy man who liked cigars and easy money. When he heard the offer, he thought it was a prank.
“Cash? Today?” Lionel asked.

Meanwhile, at Thorne Industries, Sterling was presenting to the Lancelot Group.
“Our synergy is… unparalleled,” Sterling stammered. He looked at the screen. The slides were full of technical jargon he didn’t understand. Aurora used to write his scripts. Without her, he was just reading words.
The Chairman of Lancelot, a stern man named Mr. Henderson, closed his folder.
