Chapter 9
Alora’s POV
Hearing Keira say those words to me really took me by surprise. I can’t believe that she was outrightly mocking me and making jest of what had happened to me.
She wasn’t even concerned that I must be hurting.
So she knew that her brother had assaulted me that night and yet she didn’t try to stop him or help me? Was that really how badly she saw me now? Did our friendship really mean that nothing to her?
“Get in between my toes,” She ordered, startling me. “Make sure to give each of them the much needed attention and do it properly p>
“Yes, My Lady.” I answered and proceeded to scrub her feet.
I must’ve been thinking that I had allies here but the truth is that I had no one. In their eyes, I am nothing but a traitor’s daughter and no amount of trying to clear my name will change anything.
It felt like everyone had turned their backs on me. I know that I should have expected by now but for some reason, it still hurts.
Just thinking about it brought tears to my eyes but before I could wallow more in my suffering, the door opened and Ryan walked inside.
My heart thudded in my chest from fear. His mere presence terrified me which is crazy because just weeks ago, I always had butterflies in my stomach and not terror.
“Brother,” Keira called out, her face brightening up with a smile. “What are you doing here p>
“I came to see and talk to you.” He answered, walking up to where she sat. I stood up to my feet and took a step back to give them a minute to talk.
“How is your new maid settling in?” He asked and Keira glanced over at my direction briefly and shook her head.
“I’m trying to get used to it.” She answered. “She’s not good for anything but I just have to endure it somehow p>
“Make sure she does all the work without taking any breaks and if she tries to upset you in any way then, do well to let me know.” He said and she nodded at him, pretending like I wasn’t even there in the room with them.
“So, why are you here p>
“Tomorrow is your nineteenth birthday and I wanted to throw a feast to celebrate. I would like to know if that would be okay?” He asked and Keira squealed in delight, her hands wrapped around his neck as she jumped to hug him.
“Of course, brother.” Her smile deepened. “Can I also send a list of guests that I would like to invite p>
“It’s your birthday celebration so you’re free to do whatever you want.” He kissed her forehead and pulled away. “But I’m curious, who do you want to invite that’s not already on my list p>
Keira’s cheeks turns crimson red as she blushes hard. “Lycan Kyrell. I want him to attend. I like him a lot brother and I want a marriage alliance between the two of us p>
The wheels in my head started turning as soon as I heard that name. He was the same man that I had bumped into that night.
The one that had refused to help me. The one who also happens to be my mate. Keira likes my mate?
Well, she doesn’t know that and he has no claim over me so it’s not my business. Besides, a man like him was of no good anyway so if she liked him then I only wish her the best of luck.
“The Lycan King doesn’t interact with such frivolities my dear,” He stroked her hair as he spoke.
“And he almost never attends any kind of events so I doubt that he’d make it to your birthday even if we invite him.” He added, pushing a strand of hair behind her ears.
“Also, I have heard rumours about how he killed his first Luna after marriage and can never father a child. I don’t want such a harsh reality for my one and only sister whom I adore.” Ryan tried to make her see reason but knowing Keira, I could tell that she wasn’t interested.
“Maybe, they’re just rumors p>
“Every rumour has a little bit of truth in them Keira and if I can protect you from ending up with a cursed man like him then I would p>
He is cursed? Well, good for him I guess but then again Ryan is nothing but a liar so I wouldn’t believe his words.
Maybe he just didn’t want Kiera to be with him because of the other rumours that we have always known. The entire pack knew that he was our mortal enemy for a very long time.
I was even surprised to see that he had attended the Alpha’s banquet that night. He almost never shows up for any of these event. Not everyone knows what he looks like and he is rumoured to be ruthless to the point where everyone is terrified of him.
He is labeled as the feared Lycan King across all seven kingdoms for a reason.
“But he’s the most sort after eligible man in the entire seven kingdoms,” Keira argued. “If he’s bad just like they says that he is then no one would be interested in becoming his wife p>
“I want to be his wife, Ryan.” She demanded desperately, holding his hands. “And as my brother, I want you to help me secure him as my husband p>
“I will try my best to send out an invitation,” He assured her and her lips stretched into a satisfied smile.
“But I can’t promise anything,” He was quick to add. “He might or might not come especially after what happened last time when your so called maid tried to throw herself at him p>
He darted his eyes at me and I felt my throat go dry in an instant. I have the increasing urge to deny what he has just said but I knew that he was only trying to bait me to get a reaction out of me.
I didn’t throw myself at him. Why was he trying to add more fuel to the flames? He knew that Keira already hated me and saying that I threw myself at the man she wanted would only escalate things.
“But still,” He breathed out. “I’ll see what I can do to make sure that he attends the celebration p>
