Chapter 21
Kyrell’s POV
Two Days.
That’s how long it has been since my last meeting and altercation with the elders of the council in regards to choosing a new wife.
It has been exactly two days since I last spoke to Declan after considering the the words of the elders and giving him permission to go ahead with forming an alliance with the said woman that he has decided to choose for me.
Apparently, she was a princess of pure Royal blood and her father was a highly respected leader from another pack. I am not interested in other details because left for me, I would not even consider getting married again.
I hated it but what I hated more is the fact that another woman would suffer for my own problems and decisions. She would be locked up here with someone like me because I will not be capable of giving her the love and affection that a husband gives his wife.
If she’s lucky, she might survive the drought and if she’s unlucky like Lady Natalia then she might also join her ancestors in the afterlife. All this would’ve been avoided if only they didn’t try to force their wishes on me.
Earlier today, I had held a meeting with the council to announce my intention of going through with the marriage and most of them had openly supported the idea and had decided to stand by me.
The only person who was skeptical and against it was none other than Conrad who had completely opposed the motion and had asked me to rethink his decision.
The more I wanted to believe that Conrad was plotting against me, the more I couldn’t. And I can’t confront or accuse him of anything unless he has given me reasonable suspicion to do so. It was a pack law that has been in place for a very long time and can’t be broken.
I always find it hard to believe that he was plotting against me because he was a trusted friend who had served my father even after my banishment as the next Zivando’s heir.
He had taken care of our people and had also played a vital role in the war that had taken place in our pack a few years ago.
He was not only my council but a right hand man who knew everything and anything about him. Declan must’ve been mistaken.
There’s no way on earth he would go through that extent to hurt me. I know that I have enemies who sought after my life and position but I didn’t want to believe that Conrad could be one of them.
Closing the files that I have been working on all morning, I decided to take an evening stroll to clear my head. A lot had been going on and so far, I couldn’t understand if I would be able to bear them.
The burden was simply too much and no matter how much I tried, I just couldn’t find an escape.
Standing on the fields, my mind played back to the strange slave woman that I had rescued, lying almost lifeless in that tent. I still couldn’t believe that she hasn’t woken up until now. I couldn’t forget the way she had looked at me that night at the banquet.
Those eyes filled with fear, desperation and pain. It was different than the ones I have ever encountered in my life yet familiar and it reminded me of someone I will never be able to forget.
I need to stop thinking about her. I needed her gone forever. I know that the cougar would never accept her as my mate but my wolf is not as strong willed as the other animal.
So before it gets to that point, I needed to get rid of her.
Frustrated with my thoughts, I made my way back to my chambers to retire for the night. As I took the route that led to my room, I recalled that I haven’t had a proper meal and for some reason, I still wasn’t hungry as well.
The minute I got into my chambers and slammed the door behind me, I stripped off my clothes, wore a lighter material and made for my bed, hoping to fall asleep but even that seemed like an impossible feat to achieve.
I reached out to my sleeping herbs at my bedside that Moira had prepared for me and drowned all the contents but still, it didn’t make any effect on my current state.
For how long would I go through this? How long would I suffer? How long would I be sleep deprived? For how long would his pain and endless nightmare torture and torment me?
Angered, I tuned into my wolf to communicate with Moira. Due to fact that I possess two animals, I am able to communicate telepathically and at a wide range with other wolves. It was a rare gift that only I possessed.
“My Lord,” Her voice came through my thoughts almost immediately “Is there something p>
“Send Anya up to my chambers, now!” And with that, I quickly severed the mind link. I wasn’t supposed to do this now but maybe drawing sexual pleasures from her body would help me sleep better since none of the herbs were working anymore.
I will have to get my mind and body tired and utterly exhausted somehow and what better way than having sex? Sooner than I expected, I heard the hesitant but firm knock on my door.
“Come in!” I ordered and the door immediately opens wide to reveal Anya, who was clad in a sultry and exposed outfit.
Anya had always looked beautiful but I have never been impressed or allured by her charms. I have made it clear that she was only in my life to pass the time and satisfy me whenever I was bored. She was my slave, my plaything that I had acquired for myself.
“You sent for me, My Lord.” Her voice threaded with need and pure arousal.
“Strip!” A single command that resonated with authority and she immediately pulled off her clothing one after the other till she was left stark naked in front of me.
“Where would it be this time, My Lord? On the bed or on the table as usual?” She questioned while I went silent as I pondered briefly on her question.
