Chapter 23

Alora’s POV

“You have to wake up, Alora.” Someone called out to me and I turned to see my mother standing at a distance, her beautiful face drawn in a sad smile.

Her eyes expressed pain and staring at them made me realize how hurt she must’ve been. I rushed to meet her but Is pushed back by an unforseen force that caged me in like a barrier, not allowing me to walk through.

“I can’t meet you.” I whispered with tear filled eyes, stretching my hands out towards her but she didn’t reciprocate. I could tell that she was fighting back the urge to do so.

“If I hold you,” She started, her voice breaking with every word she uttered. “I am scared that you will never wake up Alora and I need you to wake up p>

“I cannot mother,” I shook my head in refusal. “I cannot go back there. There is nothing waiting for me back there. I cannot leave you alone again p>

“My child,” She sniveled, “You are not leaving me. You are simply going back to the place where you belong. It is not yet your time and I cannot bring you with me p>

“I am hurt mother,” I cried out in pain, my heart breaking into a million tiny pieces. “I didn’t even say goodbye. You all left me and things got worse. If I wake up, there’s no telling what might happen. I don’t want to risk it anymore so please, take me with you p>

“Things will get better and when it is your time then I promise, you will join me but for now, go!” She said in a small voice that tugged my heartstrings, pulling them into an even bigger emotional crisis.

Right there in front of me, I saw her slowly begin to fade away until she was gone and I am enveloped in thick darkness with distorted voices coming from every angle around me.

“She is slowly responding to the herbs, My Lord. It won’t be long before she regains consciousness.” I heard voices but I couldn’t make them for who they belonged to.

They were strange voices and the more they spoke, the more I struggled to recognize them.

“It’s been a week and still nothing p>

“She was half dead before you brought her in. There’s definitely no way that she would’ve even survived but luckily, she did.” The voices got closer, closing in on me.

“Send a message to me as soon as she wakes up p>

“Of course, My Lord p>

I fought to open my eyes and after moments of trying, failing and struggling, my eyes fluttered open, the florescent lightening casting its glow on my face. I gasped softly, my eyelids too heavy to stay open on their own and my lips too frozen to utter words.

My tongue felt dry and my throat feels itchy and coarse.

My whole body was wrapped up in bandages and I could feel the stinging sensation from my back as they grew more and more intense.

My arms felt heavy and it felt like my whole body was carrying a huge burden that was forcefully weighing itself down on me. I ached everywhere, even in places that I couldn’t see or feel. Just how badly did am I hurt?

“Where I trailed off, my voice barely audible as I tried to move my hands and legs a bit. “Where am I p>

“By the heavens!” Someone exclaimed loudly and rushed to my side. “You’re finally awake. This is a miracle p>

I tried to lift myself up but he stopped me, “Don’t try to stand up. You were badly injured and your wounds are yet to recover. We can’t risk opening them up again before you make a full recovery p>

Reaching for the mug on the table beside him, he poured out some liquid into a cup and handed it over to me to take a sip.

“It’s a healing tonic.” He informed me when he noticed the dissatisfaction on my face. “It will help with any injuries you might’ve suffered inside your body so drink it all up p>

I gulped down the contents slowly until I emptied the cup before handing it over to him.

“Where…Where is this place?” I asked in a gruff voice as my eyes searched around the unfamiliar tent filled with herbs, remedies and scrolls littered across every isle.

“I am the Royal physician of this pack and this is my tent.” He informed me but I only groaned in response, sucking a pain filled breath through my teeth.

“You are currently within the walls of the Hunt Bound Pack, the biggest pack in all of the seven kingdoms.” He went further to say, clearing up the speculations that wandered inside my head.

“But the last thing I remember was being transported after my torture session and the big trees in the woods.” I said, my breaths coming in pants as I tried to match the increased beating of my heart.

Flashes of myself begging for help filled my head, trying to filter its way through the surface but they were too painful that I couldn’t help but scream at the intrusion.

I felt my head throb as I gasped for air, holding onto my head with shaky hands despite the pain that I was feeling at the moment.

“I will give you herbs to help with the pain,” He said to me after my chaotic episode. “You are still too weak and your body is yet to adjust to the pain that was inflicted on you p>

“How did I end up here?” I couldn’t help but ask.

“You were found and rescued by Lycan King himself.” He said, pulling out a stool to sit next to me. “He found you bruised and beaten up in the woods. You were left there for dead. He took pity on you and brought you here. You owe him your life p>

And with that, he stood up to his feet and made his way to the other side of the room, where his huge table was located with different bottles scattered on it.

“People like you do not get a second chance at life you know,” He started, making me curious and perplexed at the same time. “You are a very lucky young woman. You must be very special too to gain another life from the moon goddess herself p>

“The chances of anyone recovering from something like this is slim. Even I, doubted your recovery.” He said with a sigh. “Not to mention that your wolf had given up a long time ago but here you are p>

“I don’t understand p>

“You’re not supposed to but be grateful about it. And one more thing,” He paused, and then. “Get yourself ready to give an audience to the Lycan King soon because he will grace us with his presence any moment from now and I doubt that his intentions will be anything positive or heart-warming p>
