Chapter 35
Kyrell’s POV
“The woman that you instructed me to look out for is here, My Lord.” Moira informed me that afternoon after serving me my meals in my bed chambers. My jaw ticked, the Wolf inside me getting excited at the thought of her while the Cougar remained silent.
“And?” I questioned with sudden eagerness in my voice that I wished wasn’t there at all. Curse my wolf for that.
“I gave her all the rules to be followed and I will try my best to keep an eye on her for as long as she’s here within our walls p>
“Good!” Was all I said before I grabbed the freshly squeezed out orange juice that she had served alongside my meal to take a sip.
“If you don’t mind me asking, My Lord” She started hesitantly. “Who is she and why does someone like her owe you a debt? She’s no more than a slave with no importance p>
“I saved her life.” The words escaped my mouth after a moment of silence. “She is Alpha Ryan’s property. She’s his slave whom I rescued p>
A shocked gasp escaped from her lips at the revelation. “A woman from the Moon Stone Pack? The enemy pack? You brought her here? Why p>
“She was tortured and thrown into our borders to die.” I stated with little or no enthusiasm. I do not want to talk about that girl but sadly, every question brings me to that particular topic.
“But still, bringing her here is a very big stretch Lycan King.” Moira stresses out, the conversation taking a toll on her. If only she knew that I hated it as my much as did but couldn’t help myself because she was my mate.
I hid that part away from her because if she were to figure out the real reason why I actually did it then she would be more worried that she is now. Besides, I don’t plan on playing the mate game or marking her as mine so there was no point in telling her any of this.
“It is very dangerous Kyrell, not just for her but for you as well.” She quaked, the tension in her voice only growing stronger with each word she uttered.
“What happens if the council finds out about this? Or the people who has lost so much because of her pack? What will you do then p>
“They won’t find out.” I gritted through clenched teeth. “She will not be staying here for now and as soon as she is done paying her debt, she will leave I can assure you p>
“Do I need to remind you about what happened to your—” her voice clipped in a sharp breath the minute I darted my eyes at her.
I knew what she wanted to say and she knew for a fact that it was an unsettling topic that always stirred me up in the wrong way. It’s the one topic that I never want to discuss about no matter which conversation it was brought in.
Without giving a proper response, I stood up from my seat and strolled briskly to the balcony, the sun casted down its glow on my face as I tried to gather my thoughts that were currently going haywire.
“So she’s not just anyone, is she?” She asked and at that moment, uncertainty brooded inside me and rested in my gut. I have never kept anything from her but sadly, this is one of the things that I have to keep to myself.
“And what makes you think that p>
“You’ve never pardoned anyone to stay in this pack as a means of paying their debt. Especially not someone from the pack who is known to be your mortal adversary so what’s so different about this girl p>
“Nothing p>
“Kyrell,” She called out in a mutter, her legs dragging over to where I stood, precise and sharp. She placed her hands on my shoulders boldly yet hesitant at the same time.
My shoulders trembled slightly under her touch but I willed myself to remain calm. I don’t tolerate people touching me but Moira, is just not anyone so I am trying to get used to it.
“I am worried about you. I don’t want you to get hurt again.” She aired out her grievances. I angled my head slightly to stare at her face. The wrinkled muscles on her face were knitted anxiously.
“I will be fine.” I assured her even though I don’t believe so myself. “I have suffered in situations where no man would even dare to take a step and I came out alive as well so you don’t have to worry about me p>
“I will always worry about you.” She declared in a solemn voice and not wanting to argue further, I caved.
“So, what are your plans for lady Sophia?” She asked eagerly, her hands dropping to her sides as she waited for my response. “Surely, you must have a reason for bringing her here don’t you? When do you intend to tie the knot p>
I exhaled deeply. “Soon p>
“Your tone doesn’t indicate that.” She countered. “Did you bring her here to pass time and get the council off your back? Cause usually, you wouldn’t do something like this either p>
I would’ve laughed at her words if I could afford such luxury. “That’s far from it. As a matter of fact, the marriage will happen. As long as the council has all agreed to it, nothing will stop it from happening p>
“Also, I have convened with the council members and a feast will be held in her honour as requested by them.” I informed her of my meeting proceedings and what we had discussed about.
I had spoken against it because a feast meant inviting prominent figures, dignitaries across all packs and entertaining them and sadly, that isn’t exactly how I wanted to spend my evening or any other evening doing anytime soon.
My social skills are dead and I barely mingled with guests during such occasions. “So when is this feast going to take place p>
I moved away from the rails that protected the balcony to face her. “In a week’s time and hopefully, my entire being will be ready by then p>
