Roman’s arm tightened around my waist–just slightly. Just enough to remind me I wasn’t alone.
I hadn’t realized I was crying again until a tear slipped down my cheek and landed on the back of my hand.

We all turned to him.
He was smiling. Blood smeared his mouth, his knuckles bruised, his eyes alight with something dark and amused.

Then he laughed.
