The first thing I noticed when Savannah walked in wasn’t exactly her. It was her dress.
It clung to her like it had been stitched onto her body with intention–not modest, not careless

Asking her where she got it from or why she was wearing it would have seemed some kind of way. Possessive. Controlling. And more than anything, utterly embarrassing for her in front of people who were already watching too closely. So I kept my mouth shut, forcing my expression into something

The words sliced through my thoughts, yanking me violently out of the memory and back into the
present.
I looked up sharply, my mind dragged away from breakfast and that damn dress and Randall’s gaze.
“Why would I want to take over my own brother’s life?” I asked, irritation seeping into my tone
before I could stop it.
He leaned back in his seat like we were discussing business over tea instead of dissecting betrayal and blood. “I was informed that you and his woman were alone in her bedroom while she was… indecent, ” he said, pausing like he was searching for the least offensive word.
As if any word would make that sentence less insulting.
I knew exactly what he was referring to.
That night. The night I returned to the manor. The night that had already been twisted and exaggerated into something ugly.
