Chapter 161
When Kaene and I arrived at the venue, my nose was assaulted with the scent of hundreds of werewolves from all over the pack.
The whole pack was here.
They all had smiles on their faces and gawked in awe, trying to get a good look at the pack’s Alpha and Beta, who’ve had so much drama and gossip surrounding them.
“I heard they fought for the Luna’s love at one of these elite parties.” Someone from the lower class wolves section murmured.
Another one chimed in. “But, I thought it’s been confirmed that that video of the Beta and Luna is a fake p>
“I say it’s all propaganda bullshit p>
“When’s the Luna going to show up p>
I sniggered silently to myself. They’ll never fail to disgust me.
Anyway, Kaene and I climbed the makeshift stage at the end of the event hall, where Elder Gita stood with a smile on her wrinkled face.
She was a good one among the werewolves, but sometimes I felt like sticking a dagger into her mouth because of her extreme belief in the moon goddess.
“Are you nervous?” I turned to Kaene, asking with a teasing smile.
He glanced at me, his face remaining plain. “I’m not. If I’m nervous about anything right now, it’s that killer. Please, keep in touch with the Gamma on the latest updates with security p>
I blinked at him before nodding my head.
But deep down, I felt like rolling my eyes and probably laughing to his face.
The moron still didn’t know that the killer was standing beside him.
Oh, this wedding was going to be a lot of fun.
Anyway, after a while, Phoebe walked into the hall followed by an entourage made up of her family and Catherine.
She looked stunning, I must admit. She’s easily one of the most beautiful women I’ve ever seen… And I’ve seen lots of them from all races in my days.
When she finally got to the stage, I could’ve sworn I threw up a little in my throat when I saw the dreamy way she and Kaene stared at each other.
Alright, maybe this wedding wouldn’t be so much fun after all.
’If only I could cause some chaos of sorts.’ I thought to myself, scanning my gaze around the hall as Elder Gita began her speech. ’Taking out a few guards and then hanging their bodies in front of the Alpha mansion as a wedding gift to Phoebe wouldn’t be a bad idea p>
A slight smirk curled up the corner of my lips at the thought.
Finally, Kaene and Phoebe seemed to be done with their vows, which I had a feeling they wouldn’t even adhere to, and then shared a kiss.
Cue another throat vomit.
Could I survive the rest of this wedding at this rate?
Suddenly, things took an interesting turn when Catherine ascended the stairs to the stage, a wry smile on her face.
Oh, she was about to do it. She was about to confess.
I stared at her with curiosity as she took a microphone and began addressing the audience solemnly.
However, before she could get to any interesting parts, my mind buzzed with a ringing sound that I recognized instantly.
It was a little telepathic spell that I’d placed between Rowland and me that could allow us to communicate through our thoughts within seconds.
’Negan, there’s trouble.’ he spoke from the other end but didn’t sound alarmed.
He sounded rather excited, actually.
’What’s the matter, Rowland?’ I asked, my instincts screaming at me that something was wrong.
Before he could say anything else from the other end of the telepathy link, however, Catherine gasped loudly into the microphone.
The audience erupted into panicked screams as Catherine slowly swerved her body to me, Kaene, and Phoebe.
An arrow.
There was an arrow sticking to her chest.
And it wasn’t just any ’arrow’ too.
The sharp end of it was made of silver.
“Hunters,” I murmured, scanning my gaze around the hall.
So much for ’increased’ security.
“Beta Negan!” Gamma Thane yelled in a panic at the other end of the wireless headphones in my ear.
I grunted, placing my fingers on the device. “Yeah, hunters, I figured it out.” I blurted as I watched Kaene rush up to his mother.
“Mother!” He exclaimed, catching her before she could fall to the ground.
People around the hall were either standing up to get a better view of what was going on on top of the stage or trying to head to the exit.
“It’s an assassin!” Someone screamed.
“Who’s attacking us p>
“At a wedding of all places? Who has the Alpha offended p>
Who HASN’T Kaene offended?
As the tension in that hall seemed to increase with each passing second, suddenly, it finally happened.
Another arrow was shot, but this time it was aimed at me.
Luckily, I was able to catch it before it could strike my face, my heart pounding heavily from the adrenaline.
“They managed to decipher our location and seem to have come with full force.” Gamma Thane continued speaking in the headphones.
There were just too many things going on at once. I needed to think.
Unfortunately, I didn’t have the time for that as someone from the audience screamed in terror.
I turned my gaze to the side of the lower-class wolves just in time to see a burly man fall to the ground after having an arrow shot right through his skull.
As soon as he fell, others followed.
“Everyone, survival is important right now!” Elder Gita took charge of the audience when it seemed like Kaene was too occupied with his dying mother. “Shift if you can, run and scurry to safety p>
At that same moment, Gamma Thane spoke up in the headphones with a solemn tone. “Our soldiers are struggling out here. They’ve surrounded the estate. B– Beta Negan, you have to ensure the Luna and Alpha are safe p>
It was then that I realized who the most vulnerable target on top of this stage was.
I glanced back only to spot Phoebe standing there in her flashy wedding dress, her hands on her chest and terror in her eyes.
Flight or fight were all options for survival, and she decided to choose to freeze in such a situation p>
Suddenly, something rolled on the stage, forcing me to turn my gaze to it.
It was a bomb.
“Duck!” I yelled out, lunging at Phoebe.
