Chapter 174

“Well, luckily, neither of us are humans or witches,” Phoebe remarked, chuckling nervously.

Everyone remained silent, either glancing at her awkwardly or having their own inner turmoil.

Like me.

’Shit, shit, shit!’ I thought to myself after trying and failing repeatedly to connect to my magic and heal my hands.

Magic has never been hard for me.

I was a natural. A prodigy among the hybrids of our brotherhood and even among actual witches.

That’s why I was able to become the leader.

But now?

’I’ll find a way to resolve this mess even if it means clawing the secret out of the old hag’s brain!’ I thought to myself, glaring discreetly at the old woman and preventing myself from doing something rash.

Meanwhile, Phoebe sighed after seeing the mood everyone was in. “I’m sorry. I… I don’t know how to feel right now. So many people have died. M– My father p>

She sniffled, placing her right hand over her mouth and holding herself back from sobbing.

Kaene wrapped his arm around her shoulder, pulling her into a hug and caressing her hair.

Ugh, get a room.

“Sometimes, we lose, Luna Phoebe.” Elder Gita spoke out, trying to sound comforting. “Today just happened to be one of the days we lost. We will mourn our dead the right way but I want you to know that death isn’t the end. At least, not for us werewolves p>

I think I’ve heard enough of this bullshit p>

Turning away from the group, I placed my hands in front of my chest, coughing awkwardly.

“I’ll… I’ll head to my residence now,” I muttered, closing my eyes and trying to reach Rowland telepathically.

The result was as I expected… I couldn’t.

“Are you okay, Beta Negan?” Elder Gita asked just then, her voice holding a hint of suspicion.

What the fuck was her deal p>

“I’m fine, Elder Gita,” I mumbled, moving forward without looking back.

Phoebe still sniffled, calling me back. “B– But we have to plan our next move and p>

“No, Luna.” I swerved to look at her, failing to hide my hands. “What we need to do now is rest and take our time to grieve… To grieve what we’ve lost p>

My stomach turned when I realized that I also lost something.

My magic.

“Negan, your hands.” Phoebe pointed at them, gasping in shock. “W– What happened to p>

“I got burned by the Hunters when trying to make my way through the wolfsbane explosion to save you two.” I lied through my teeth, plastering a wry smile on my face. “It’s just a minor burn. I’ll be fine p>

That should be the end of the discussion, right? Well, apparently it wasn’t.

“It doesn’t seem minor to me.” Elder Gita remarked thoughtfully, stepping forward and dimming her eyes. “I have some potions back in my sanctuary that can heal it before it gets any worse p>

I paused, contemplating the odds.

The old hag seemed to be suspicious of me. If I declined her polite offer, her suspicions might only increase.

’Oh, she’s definitely added to my list now.’ I thought to myself while plastering a fake smile on my face in real life.

“Thank you, Elder Gita. I’ll really appreciate that p>

“How could this happen?” Rowland nearly exclaimed when I broke the news of my magic situation after barging into my mansion.

I took off my suit, flinging it aside and grunting when I stepped on ash littered on the floor.

It seemed the hunters had targeted my residence during their attacks.

Those bloody imbeciles!

“I don’t know, Rowland. It’s some centuries-old divine magic from the moon goddess herself. Maybe we should go ask her.” I said sarcastically, pausing in my tracks and slowly glancing back at him. “Oh, that’s right. The bitch has never answered the prayers of a hybrid before p>

I was furious.

I needed a way to pour out my anger but now almost all the pack members were dead.

On the bright side, Elder Gita’s stupid potions had worked their magic and my hands were healing.

My wolf was also stepping up to heal the burn marks as well at a visible rate.

Anyway, I stopped in front of the bar in my living room, stretching my hand forward to telekinetically grab a bottle of whiskey.

That’s when I remembered. I don’t have my magic anymore!

“Fucking werewolves!” I snarled, slapping aside a bottle on the counter and causing it to hit a wall and shatter into pieces.

“Hey!” Rowland retorted from behind me, his footsteps approaching. “That’s a waste of perfectly good liquor. If you want to get a drink, I can always mix a glass for you p>

I rolled my eyes, glaring briefly at the bastard. “I can mix my own drink, you idiot p>

Without another word, I turned around the bar and opened the cabinets behind the counter, my gaze scanning across an assortment of drinks.

I grabbed some and took them to the counter where I began mixing them to my taste in a glass.

“Woah, you seem tense about this.” Rowland chuckled playfully, wriggling his fingers in front of his face. “You want a massage? Or, I could get you some hot human chics from the city to let you blow some steam. Though, on second thought, I guess interacting with humans now is a big ’no, no p>

I ignored the moron, taking a sip from my drink.

It didn’t exactly hit, forcing me to gulp down all of it, sighing satisfactorily when I was done.

“Hey, I don’t have magic,” Rowland remarked. “And all the other hybrids in the Brotherhood, who all have half-witch sides, aren’t that good at magic anyway. You can do without it p>

That was the last straw.

Without any warning, I sped away from the bar and reached Rowland in a second, grabbing his collar and raising him off the ground.

“I can ’do without it’”? I repeated, my tone losing any ounce of friendliness. “My magic is what got me to the rank of leader of the brotherhood. It’s been a guiding light in the absence of the moon goddess and the support of her pathetic wolves p>

Rowland wrapped his hands around my wrist, his already pale face getting even paler with fear, but he remained silent.

“You clearly have no idea what it means to lose a part of yourself so why don’t you shut up until you’re spoken to?” I added, before letting go of his collar, causing him to fall to the ground.

Argh, that male witch who helped the Hunters better hopes he is dead by now!

This was all his fault!
