Jonathan pressed his lips together, was silent for a few seconds, and said, “No. One will be enough.” Then, he turned and walked away. As he left, his figure disappeared at the end of the hallway and from Jennifer’s view.
Then, Jennifer knocked on Donald’s door. “Are you busy? The department head wants to see you,” she said.
Donald looked up with a bit of a sparkle in his eyes. “Wow, you actually came to tell me in person. I’m flattered p>
Jennifer glanced at the two strands of hair on the desk before casually saying, “I saw your friend was here earlier, so I didn’t come in p>
He stated, “He’s not a friend. That’s my cousin, the CEO of Horizonlead Group, the one I mentioned before p>
“Oh, really?” Jennifer replied. “You’d better get going then p>
“I’ll go see the department head now,” Donald said as he took off his coat and left the office.
Jennifer folded her arms and leaned against the office door. After Donald left, her gaze returned to the clear bag on the desk. Her fingers, hanging by her side, squeezed slightly.
Jonathan was really absent–minded today, as he zoned out several times during the meeting. ‘What if that kid really is my son? Although it seems unlikely, what if it is?‘ he thought.

If it really were his son, he would book a five star hotel in Nareigh to celebrate with fireworks and have an excuse to meet Teresa and confront her.
As unlikely as it seemed, there was still a lingering sense of faint hope in his heart.

It was New Year’s Eve, and Jonathan’s phone wouldn’t stop ringing. Irene kept calling him, reminding him to come home for dinner. It was New Year’s Eve dinner, so he must join.
“Simona is also coming over for dinner, so make sure you come back early,” she said.
Jonathan was speechless. His voice instantly turned irritated. “Is she even family? What were you thinking when you invited her for New Year’s Eve dinner p>
Irene said, “She wants to apologize to you! I heard she tried to take care of you when you were drunk, but you thought she broke into your house, which led to the misunderstanding p>
Jonathan exclaimed, “There’s no misunderstanding between us and definitely no feelings. She followed me home. Isn’t that scary to you? And you’re still sticking up for
her p>
Irene was unfazed and replied, “She’s just a girl. Even if she followed you home, you’re a grown man. How could you possibly be at a disadvantage? If anyone got the short end of the stick here, it’d be her p>
Jonathan disagreed with Irene, saying, “If I ever have a son, I’ll teach him to lock the door behind him when he gets home so he won’t get into any trouble p>
Irene snapped immediately, “Do you even have a son p>
Jonathan remained silent and thought, ‘Not yet! I’m still waiting for Donald to bring me
the test results p>
He added, “I’ll definitely be home for New Year’s Eve dinner, but if Simona shows up, I won’t go. If you think I’m wrong, I’ll call Grandpa now p>
“You-” Irene gave in. “Fine. I won’t ask her to come. She can visit on January 3rd. Is that okay p>
However, Jonathan had already hung up.
Once again, Irene was infuriated by the stubborn Jonathan.
After a short while, Donald came to find Jonathan. He was supposed to deliver something from Luviston Estates, but no one was there because Jonathan hadn’t left work yet.
Jonathan told Donald to take the elevator up to the CEO’s office. The latter entered with a report.
“Take a seat.” Jonathan møtioned to his secretary to pour Donald some coffee.
Donald handed over the report, and Jonathan took it. He asked, “Jonathan, are you going home for the New Year’s Eve dinner tonight p>
“Yes. Aren’t you going?” Jonathan asked.
“I’ll be late as I need to return to the hospital for some work,” Donald mumbled awkwardly.

“Working overtime on New Year’s Eve?” Jonathan chuckled faintly. “Do you have a girlfriend? You’re spending time with her p>
The remark struck a chord with Donald. He clenched his fist and coughed lightly. “Not my girlfriend yet p>
“Oh? Well, you better hurry then,” Jonathan said.
“Got it. I’ll try my best to win her over.” Donald smiled faintly.
Jonathan always found Donald quite reliable. His calm demeanor reassured Jonathan enough to let him handle the test reports. Firstly, Donald was diligent and responsible. Secondly, he wasn’t someone who spread rumors around.
Jonathan chatted with Donald a while longer before the latter left.
Finally, Jonathan’s gaze landed on the test report. The sealed report, bound by a white string at the opening, was like Pandora’s box. He stared at it for about five minutes before slowly picking it up and opening it.
