Chapter 9
The driver drove quickly, taking me straight to the pack hospital.
As I was being wheeled out of the ward, I saw Mark rushing in through the door.
A warrior explained,
“The Alpha came here risking his life. We couldn’t stop him p>
I didn’t blame him. I simply looked at Mark and said flatly,
The baby is already gone. You came too late p>
Mark’s eyes turned red, and he collapsed to the floor in defeat.
“Haley, how could you be so heartless p>
I almost laughed. After all I had been through in the pack these seven years, which of his actions wasn’t heartless?
Alpha Frank walked into the room, took one look at Mark on the floor, and with exasperation in his voice, said,
“Now you regret it? Where were you when this all started p>
With that, he tried, to pull Mark up off the floor and drag him out.
“Don’t just stand there being an eyesore. Isn’t it enough that you’ve hurt Haley this badly p>
The door to the ward closed, but I could still vaguely hear Alpha Frank scolding Mark from the other side.
Lignored it, sitting on the hospital bed as I opened the check to glance at it.
Alpha Frank was generous enough. It was a check for $100 million, more than enough for me to live comfortably for the rest of my life.
During my stay at the pack hospital, Mark visited me daily, showering me with all kinds of supplements and gifts.
Some of the nurses, unaware of the situation, envied me.
“Luna, Alpha really cares about you p>
I smiled faintly and corrected them,
“I’m not the Luna anymore. I’ve already broken the mate bond with him.
Not long ago, Mark had signed the bond–breaking deal under Alpha Frank’s pressure.
On the day I was discharged, I didn’t expect to see Skylar.
She had grown noticeably haggard over this time, her cheeks sunken, no longer the pampered daughter of an Alpha that everyone adored
When she saw me, she shouted at me, her voice sharp.
“Haley, since you’ve already broken the mate bond with Mark, why are you still clinging to him p>

Skylar covered her face, her eyes wide in disbelief.
“Mark, how could you be so heartless to me p>
She seemed to have forgotten that Mark had always been a cold–hearted person.
It just used to be directed at me, and now, it was her turn.
Mark, however, was unmoved by her outburst. If anything, there was a hint of annoyance in his eyes,
“There’s nothing left between us. You made me misunderstand Haley f
for so many years. I haven’t even settled things with you yet p>
Skylar shot him a furious glance, stood up from the floor, and snapped back.
“Now you blame everything on me? What, even the birth control pills were my idea p>
“Mark, how come it’s only now I realize what a hypocrite you are p>
She spat on the ground and turned, storming off.
Mark anxiously looked back at me, his voice tinged with uncertainty.
“I was wrong about everything before p>
I cut him off.
“ You’ve said that so many times already. I don’t want to hear it again p>
“If you’re really remorseful, why don’t you just cut off your own thing to show me you mean it p>
I grabbed a surgical knife from the side and handed it to him, but Mark’s face turned ghostly pale. He didn’t have the courage to take the knife.
I sneered and threw the knife back.
Mark was the type of person who only knew how to apologize with words, but would never take any real action.
After being discharged, I immediately severed all ties with the pack
The next time I heard anything about them was three years later.
I learned that the bloodmoon pack and the bluemoon pack had fallen out and were at war with each other. They were locked in a fierce battle and had long lost the glory they once had.
As for Mark, as the abandoned son, he had been sent to the Northern Border.
I pulled my gaze away from the news and made myself a cup of coffee
The past was behind me. My life was just beginning.
