Summer’s POV
I couldn’t help but stare when Alex freed himself from his jeans. His cock was intimidatingly large–thick and heavy with prominent veins running along the shaft. It made Foster look pathetically average in comparison. My core clenched at the thought of taking him inside me, a mixture of apprehension and desperate need flooding through me.
Then, the phone screen burned into my vision, Foster’s name flashing like a warning sign. All the heat and desire that had been building between Alex and me instantly froze.
“ I have to take this,” I whispered, my voice shaking as Alex’s grip on my hips tightened possessively.

I pulled away from Alex slightly, but he refused to let me go completely, his arms still wrapped around my waist.
“I don’t see how that’s any of your concern,” I replied, struggling to keep my voice even.
“ Don’t play games with me, Summer.” His tone dropped dangerously low. “Are you fucking him? Are you letting that Blackwood bastard touch what’s mine p>
“ You know what, Foster?” I said, my voice growing stronger even as Alex’s other hand found my breast, roughly pinching my nipple. “Maybe I am. And maybe he knows exactly how to make me wet in ways you never could p>
I heard Foster’s sharp intake of breath. “You stupid bitch,” Foster snarled. “I’ve already petitioned the Council. You belong to me –both of you do. You have one week to return home before I come and drag you back myself p>
“Fuck you. The moment you chose Susanna, you lost the right to call me yours. Go–run back to her and stay the hell away from me! ”
As if to emphasize my defiance, Alex’s hand moved from my breast to between my legs, pressing firmly against my core through my jeans. I had to bite my lip to suppress a moan.
“You forget your place,” Foster’s voice went deathly quiet. “ I am still your Alpha. Your mate p>
“Not anymore, ” I whispered, feeling something inside me finally break–the last remnants of the bond I’d been forced to accept. “I rejected you. Or did you forget that already p>
I ended the call before he could respond, letting out a shaky breath as Alex pulled me against his chest.
“ That was fucking hot, the way you stood up to him…” he murmured against my hair, his voice thick with desire. “…makes me want to bend you over right now. ”
His crude words sent a shock of desire through me, but Alpha Foster’s call had effectively doused any passion that had been burning between us moments earlier.
Alex seemed to sense this, reluctantly pulling back and helping me readjust my clothing.
“ That bastard has a talent for ruining moments. But he won’t ruin what’s between us p>
“Let’s go home, ” he said softly, leading me back to the car. The drive back to the pack house was quiet,both of us lost in our thoughts. Foster’s threats hung in the air between us, an unwelcome reminder of the battle that still lay ahead.
