clatter.
That closed door, along with the sound of running water from inside, made me–usually the epitome of cool composure–suddenly feel unsettled.

The butler didn’t ask anything else, and the room suddenly grew quiet, with only the occasional sound of waves
and the soft rustle of turning newspaper pages.
