“Sweetheart,” I said gently, stroking Aria’s hair, “why don’t you go to your room for a bit? Mommy needs to talk with Aunt Elena p>
“But-” Aria’s small fingers gripped my sleeve tighter, her eyes wide with lingering fear.

“Even so, I’m still concerned.” When I first heard about Elena’s engagement to Alpha David, I’d been genuinely happy for her.
My best friend was finally getting her heart’s desire.
But after meeting Queenie and seeing what kind of person she truly was, I couldn’t shake this feeling of unease. My eyelid had been twitching all day – an old omen of trouble ahead.
