“Please, you have to save her,” I pleaded desperately.
“She’s stable,” the doctor said, removing his mask with a practiced expression. “We’ve managed to get her through the crisis, and she’s out of immediate danger, but we’ll need to keep her for observation p>
“In the future, avoid giving her cold foods and known allergens,” he warned. “Next time, she might not be so lucky p>
I nodded vigorously through my tears. “Yes, I’ll remember that. Thank you, doctor p>
“You should go take care of the hospital admission paperwork now,” he added.
“Yes, yes, I’ll go right away,” I said, but Ethan stopped me.
“Luna Summer, let me handle that. Alpha Alexander will be here shortly p>
“All right.” I forced back my tears. “Ethan, after you’ve paid the hospital fees, please take Aria back to the hotel p>
Aria and Ethan immediately protested, “No way p>
Ethan studied me for a moment, then nodded slowly, a flicker of realization in his eyes. “All right. I’ll take her p>
Then I knelt down to her level. “Honey, I need you to go with Ethan. This isn’t the right time for you to be here. I need to focus on making sure Thea is okay p>
I didn’t want to say what I was really thinking–that I didn’t want Alexander to discover Aria yet, not like this, not in the midst of crisis and anger.
“Call me if there’s any problem,” he added before leading a tearful Aria away.
Soon after, the emergency room doors opened, and nurses wheeled out a hospital bed.
Thea’s tiny body lay motionless on the stark white sheets, an IV drip attached to her arm. Her usually rosy cheeks had lost all color, leaving her pale and fragile, like a porcelain doll.
My heart shattered at the sight. “Thea, I’m so sorry…” I whispered.
“Please step aside!” a nurse instructed, wheeling the bed away.
My legs had gone numb from standing so long. I stumbled after them, following the bed as they moved Thea to a private room.
After the doctors performed a series of routine checks, they gave me instructions on how to care for her.
One nurse, noticing my distress, offered some comfort. “Don’t worry too much. Her condition is stable now. She’ll be fine after a few days of rest p>
“Thank you,” I replied with genuine gratitude.

After the medical staff left, I sat by Thea’s bedside, one hand gently holding hers, the other clutching my phone. I repeatedly dialed Alexander’s number (which Ethan had given me) only to hang up before it could ring.
Finally, after several minutes, I took a deep breath and prepared to make the call properly. But before I could press dial, a voice came from the doorway.
“Alpha Alexander, the young miss is in this room,” someone announced.
The hospital room door swung open.
I trembled slightly, looking up anxiously toward the source of the sound.
A tall figure with a cold demeanor entered the room.
He appeared to have rushed over–his hair was slightly disheveled, his shirt collar somewhat wrinkled, no longer the impeccably groomed man I remembered.
A doctor in a white coat followed him, flipping through medical charts while reporting Thea Blackwood’s condition.
But whatever the doctor was saying, I couldn’t hear a word. My red–rimmed eyes were fixed solely on Alexander, his cold presence advancing step by step toward me.
“Sarah, are you listening to me?” someone asked.
“Sarah p>
I couldn’t hear them. But even from across the room, I could feel Alexander’s murderous gaze, as if he wanted to tear me limb from limb.
The phone slipped from my hand, crashing to the hard floor with a clatter before falling silent.
My throat felt like it was stuffed with wet cotton, making it impossible to speak or breathe.
Was he going to kill me?
His face looked terrible as he came closer, and for a moment, I truly wasn’t sure.
